Recreating Perilous Platforms was a special project undertaken for the Creatistream on SYLVER.STREAM from March 8th to April 22nd, 2021.
The objective of the project was to recreate the levels from the most "complete" builds and demos of Pinkie Pie's Perilous Platforms (a fangame that I had worked on from 2012-2015) in the Super Mario Maker 2 level-creation tool suite.
I broadcasted the entire level design process to document progress, source feedback from my audience, and gauging reaction to gamedev-minded stream sessions.
Due to having no surviving level layouts preserved as image files and no way to reliably decompile the original SWF files in a way to scrutinize said layouts, I replayed multiple builds of the game and recreated levels as I explored them - starting as a base to block out specific setpieces, and later adding either slight changes or introduced reworked mechanics to better necessitate the original level design intentions.
