Spectre does not trick a program into accessing memory, and an attacker leveraging Spectre does not read the memory that the victim program accessed. The vulnerability is that details of the CPU's behavior when executing a program are visible to other processes due to side effects, and that information may be enough for an attacker to determine what data the CPU was operating on. This is explained correctly in the subsequent paragraphs. undo
