The term exclusively refers to movies for several reasons. 2. A cult classic in film is one that was either not initially popular or well-regarded by the majority of people (not just critics) but develops a passionate fan base. If this song were a film, it would still not fit the definition of cult classic, since it was massively popular with the general public, just criticized by critics.
