Artificial Intelligence in Scholarly Publishing: Has the way we use artificial intelligence (AI) driven technology and data changed publishing forever? This topic is covered in the recent issue of Information Services & Use (ISU).

The open access issue features articles from the 2019 NFAIS conference: "While a great deal of intelligent technology has already been developed and deployed in the scholarly publishing industry, the key to its success will be in synthesizing AI technology with massive data, tools, varying business models, and the underpinning frameworks that are changing the way we seek out, discover, interact with, and benefit from scholarship."

BEHIND THE NEW JOURNAL WEBSITES:
In our previous quarterly mailing, we shared details of our new journal websites. What we didn't mention was how these had come about. One of the key drivers for these sites has been the need to create a home for content and features that do not readily fit into a standard journal format. As a publication develops and grows, the need for a more expansive online presence also arises. Our initial approach to building new websites was ad hoc, using a system that offered no interoperability between sites.

So we began our journey to create a template that would enable us to make new journal websites easily and seamlessly in a flexible format, with capabilities to incorporate building blocks and a multitude of digital objects – for instance machine readable content and linked data. For this project, we partnered with Dropsolid to develop this digital experience that would be powered by open source software. Read the story here.
