Join Stop LAPD Spying Coalition and the Palestinian Youth Movement for a special workshop for teachers, social workers, counselors and youth on “Building Youth Power Against School Surveillance.” We will be discussing the history of national security surveillance of youth in schools and going over the impact of the FBI and Department of Homeland Security’s “Countering Violent Extremism” framework and programs in education. We will share information about the impacts of these programs on our communities - especially on Black, Brown, Muslim, Immigrant, and Indigenous youth, and how CVE is being used to co-opt abolitionist demands to defund the police. We will also reveal how it is being used to repress political movements - including the Palestinian liberation movement. We will discuss the pitfalls of the hate crime and terrorism framework, and the role of Zionist orgs in supporting and collaborating with law enforcement on surveillance programs like CVE. We will close with updates on how to take action and build power together, using our positions as educators, youth, social workers, parents or community members to abolish CVE and end surveillance in our schools.
