Using Primary Source Documents to Understand Wildlife Management
The struggle to preserve America's wildlife is an amazing tale of national and natural history. It is a story of what we can accomplish when we work together toward a common goal. One of the ways that we can understand this story and its place in American history is by analyzing primary source documents.

Join the Arizona Game and Fish Department as we provide a brief history of wildlife conservation in North America and explore unique ways to bring this story to your students. Participants will learn how national figures such as Teddy Roosevelt, John Muir, Gifford Pinchot and Aldo Leopold shaped wildlife conservation as well as the impact of local explorers and scientists within Arizona. We will look at how major events such as the extinction of the passenger pigeon shaped wildlife management. And we will look at some of the early explorers into the Arizona territory.

This workshop will take place on Saturday, May 20, 2017 from 9am until 3pm. It will be held at the Hirsch Conservation Education Area at the Ben Avery Shooting Facility.

Space is limited and registration is required. Registration does not guarantee participation. Spots will be filled on a "first to register" basis after payment has been received. If all spots are filled, additional registrations will be added to a waiting list. All accepted participants will receive additional details as we get closer to the program.

All educators are welcome to register. However, a majority of the educational activities are geared toward secondary teachers.

All participants will receive a certificate for 5.5 hours of continuing education credit as well as a number of educational resources including a book on Arizona history, a complete high school curriculum and more!

Participants will be responsible for their own lunch.
