Wed., Apr 27: Dream vacation project in Google Classroom is due Friday. Our first assembly is tomorrow. Also, we will be starting to prepare for Track and Field. Please make sure your child has outdoor and indoor shoes. We started our new unit on Geometry and will have a short quiz on Friday on Multiplying 3 digit x 1 digit numbers, and dividing 3 digit by 1 digit numbers. Reviewing multiplication tables to 10x10 will be beneficial.

Mon., Apr 25: Please check with you child that they have 5 pencils, pencil crayons, calculator, pencil case, ruler, glue stick, and some lined paper. Also data quiz returned.

Wed Apr 20: Today, our Dream Vacation project was introduced. Students will get $10 000 to plan a vacation. They will be allowed to team up and pool their money. Tonight, they should think about where they would like to go. They will need to prepare a budget with how they will spend their money along with a paragraph about their chosen vacation spot. Also, we've been working on division. If your child needs some help, students can check out video #8 and #9 on the website links.

Wed.. Apr 13: A busy week so far. Students are continuing to adjust to working in groups again after 2 years of having desks separated in class. It's a learning process. Remind your child about the importance of being on task when working in groups. Also, lots of excitement about our Science commercial assignment about safety equipment for biking or walking at night. Math quiz was sent home. Final test tomorrow (stem & leaf plots, mean, median and mode) for those that want to boost their marks. Have a wonderful, long weekend!!!

Wed., Apr 6: Tomorrow we will be starting 3 digit x 1 digit multiplication. We've reviewed all the multiplication tables. It would be great if you could be reviewing times tables up to X10 with your child.

Tues., Apr 5: Today we saw some very cool video clips of the Inca. Ask your child about 3 things they learned. As we're wrapping up our Data unit, some are still needing some practice making stem and leaf plots. Try this game. Roll a pair of dice 9 times...let 1 die be the ones and the other the 10s. Make a stem and leaf plot, then find the mean, median, mode and range.

Wed., Jan 19: We had a fun day of sledding, playing in the snow and getting back into routines. Please ensure your returns to school with the following: 5-10 pencils, pencil crayons, water bottle with name taped on, workbooks, Nelson Literacy book, calculator, ruler, their binder with dividers and indoor shoes. Also, tomorrow is going to be extremely cold. Please send extra socks and mittens, a scarf, hat, etc.

Fri., Jan 14: We had an awesome week with lots of amazing creations and sharing. Congratulations to Aroush and Jayda for winning the Kahoot rounds. I'm looking forward to seeing students on Monday. Have a wonderful weekend and prepare to see some snow!

Wed., Jan 12: It was so nice to see everyone's pets today. I loved seeing seeing some of the tricks pets could do. If anyone was away, and didn't get a chance to show their pet, let me know tomorrow and we can arrange a time. Also, fantastic job on the 'One Word' assignments!

Mon., Jan 10, 2022: Hey everyone...Happy. New Year. everyone.. We'll be meeting at 9 am on Tuesday and breaking at 12pm for 40 min. so you can eat with your families. Holiday Hampers - We have adopted some families and hope that you can help make their holidays special. Families can buy items for the individual on your classes list or go on School Cash Online and make a donation directly. Cash donations will be converted to gift cards so the families can buy groceries, essentials and gifts. Donations will be accepted until Friday, December 17th. Fri., Dec 3: Another fun Friday! Students worked on their Black Friday shopping budgets. At home, give them a limit of money and send them shopping in flyers. Several were away, so we'll have our keyboard challenge next week.

Wed., Dec 1: Parents, please send back any portfolios of work. This will be kept for conferencing and added to throughout the year. Each person has their own file in the filing cabinet. Amazing fun yesterday tobogganing. Our radish microgreens are ready for harvest. Students took home a bag of sunflower seeds to try growing their own microgreens. I suggested soaking them for 24 hours first to speed up the process. Students can experiment with changing the soaking times, planting depths, types of soils, blackout times, and watering amounts and note which factors grow the best results. Tomorrow, our keyboarding competition begins. Pick a favourite site, and showcase your talent keeping your fingers on the home row.

Mon., Nov 22: We had several students away today. Those planning to be away for the week, let me know and I'll email you a work package. We examined our microgreens science experiment that are growing under different conditions. After 4 days in the dark, they were all yellow, and we exposed 3 of the 4 to light today. Some were an inch tall already. Lastly today, we took 24 squares, and built different rectangles and noticed how the perimeter changed. Thurs., Nov 18: Report cards were sent home tonight. Also, I sent everyone an email link to everyone to sign up for an interview time. If you have any problems, let me know. Please return the envelope and the signature portion by the end of next week. Thanks. To support your child at home, have them estimate and measure the perimeter of their room using a measuring tape.

Wed., Nov. 17: Tomorrow Western Day. Today, we finished building a computer in our class. Students will then take our outline and describe how to build a computer. Also, we were looking at plant habitats today and set up an experiment to see how changing different growing conditions affects the growth of radish microgreens. Once the experiment is over, students will get a small bag of seed to trying to grow their own at home.

Thurs., Nov 11: A wonderful Remembrance Day assembly outside. Students did a great job constructing their wreath...a fine team effort by all. Tomorrow is twin day and...fun Friday.

Fun Fri., Nov 5: Awesome job to everyone for prepping amazing art for Remembrance Day. Early next week, be aware of a Grammar quiz Tues. on capitals, periods, and dividing groups of words into 2 sentences. Also, a checkup question on what we've been working on in Fractions as well as another mini-quiz on rounding to 10s, 100s, and double digit multiplication using multiples up to 4.

Thurs., Nov 4: Friday is Picture Day. Please locate the school email regarding what to wear. There will be no class photo, only individual. Students should have 4 short writing pieces by the end of Friday. I will be conferencing next week to follow up.

Wed., Nov 3: We started a 1 week unit on fractions. Our first topic, fair sharing, looked at how we could share chocolate bars....4 chocolate bars between 8 friends and 5 chocolate bars between 2 friends. Have your child explain how they'd be shared using pictures. Try Fraction Frenzy 4 and Fraction Balls 1 below.

Tues., Oct 19: Math Problem to solve. Bring in Wed...Bob has the following pattern: 85, 87, 89. Sam's pattern is 37, 46, 55. Who will get to 100 first? Show your proof.

Fri, Oct 15: Several students are missing a pencil crayon set. Due to covid, we're not allowed to share materials. Please check with your child to make sure they have a full set, along with pencils. Also, check with your child on their google classroom 'to do' section. Several have not submitted their assignment. No homework this weekend.

Wed, Oct 13: Parents, please keep practicing multiplication tables up to 10x3. We'll be doing a few more activities in class to practice some more. Also, we've had two mini Google slides projects. You can always have your child log in to their todo section to see if there are any assignments that are not yet done. In math, quizzes will be returned today. They should be initialed and returned so they can go in the math section of their binders. We will be finishing up our patterning unit by early next week. In language, we'll be starting some journaling activities. Our goal is to start using organizers to brainstorm ideas and make our writing longer.

Wed, Oct 6: We started our Habitat's project today in Google Classroom. This will be due at the end of the day on Friday. Check with your child that they have: 10 pencils, pencil crayons, pencil case, headphones or earbuds, and some would benefit from having a dollar store wireless mouse. They also had fun trying out google quickdraw. Please review their 2s and 3s times tables. We'll be having a patterning quiz on Friday. They'll need to be able to 1. extend patterns and describe them. For example, 2, 5, 8....next 3 terms are 11, 14, 17; it's a growing pattern. Start at 2 and add 3 each time.

Tues. Oct 5: Parents, please check 'School cash online" to make sure you've signed any forms for your child. Also, thanks to those students who already brought in their 'Show and Tell' items. Check with your child whether they need help finding something interesting to them to talk about to the class...ie. pictures, favourite stuffie, something from a trip, etc.

Thurs., Sept 23: Terry Fox walk / run tomorrow. Post a comment on google classroom about your favourite weekend activity. Students who wish to have locks need to make sure they only use combination locks with a copy of the combination to Mr. Mako. Also, over the next week, students are asked to bring in a few pictures of themselves so we can learn a bit more about everyone.
