A History of Malkionism

Selected Option:

An Illuminated History of Malkionism.

The brilliant Gloranthan artist Katrin Dirim has illustrated Nick Brooke's historical outline of the Mediaeval West of Glorantha, with 16 glorious manuscript pictures depicting key moments in Malkioni scripture and history, as well as three studies of the Western peoples: the ancient Brithini, maritime Waertagi and detestable Vadeli. From the Ice Age to the God Learners, from the Serpent Kings of Seshneg to Arkat's Dark Empire, gain new insights into Glorantha through the eyes of a visionary steeped in the artistic traditions of antiquity and the middle ages.

Written as an in-world document to introduce players of the 70-player live-action freeform role-playing game How the West was One to the Malkioni West, the text has been unchanged since its first publication in 1994 in the University of Sog City Conference Guide and Tales of the Reaching Moon #13: the Go West! Special, while the artwork is entirely new for this edition.

NEW! Electrum Bonus Content: Illuminating Malkionism - 46 pages of emails, group chat logs, sketches and line-art showing how the illustrations were created (Before Time, Dawn Age Seshneg, Arkat's Crusade Against Chaos, The God Learners, the Western Peoples & Icons of the Prophets). Plus The Bloody Vadeli - three pages of historical inspirations for the Gloranthan West's sinister Others.

Content Warning: the last two pages show how some of the (fictional) Gloranthan Malkioni people malign their enemies, the (equally fictional) Gloranthan Vadeli people, in ways that resemble anti-Semitic and other blood libels of antiquity and the Middle Ages. The author and artist utterly reject anti-Semitism, and urge game masters and players to take care if they choose to bring these tropes into Glorantha.

Underpriced?

One of the more pricey JC publications per page.

Bonus content is a bonus, and should not be taken into the value of the product, otherwise it's not a bonus.

I’m not sure I see your point. This is an art book. It is pricey because good art is pricey: if there was no art, it would be much cheaper (in fact, the text is available free online, as several reviewers have mentioned). The bonus content is free.

I was replying to the OP's point that it is underpriced with the bonus content. It doesn't matter what kind of book it is.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
