Revision as of 14:14, 19 May 2024

If you are unable to complete a move for technical reasons, you can request technical help below. This is the correct method if you tried to move a page, but you got an error message saying something like "You do not have permission to move this page, for the following reasons:..." or "The/This page could not be moved, for the following reason:..."

  • To list a technical request: edit the Uncontroversial technical requests subsection and insert the following code at the bottom of the list, filling in pages and reason:

    {{subst:RMassist|current page title|new title|reason=edit summary for the move}}

    This will automatically insert a bullet and include your signature. Please do not edit the article's talk page.
  • If you object to a proposal listed in the uncontroversial technical requests section, please move the request to the Contested technical requests section, append a note on the request elaborating on why, and sign with ~~~~. Consider pinging the requester to let them know about the objection.
  • If your technical request is contested, or if a contested request is left untouched without reply, create a requested move on the article talk and remove the request from the section here. The fastest and easiest way is to click the "discuss" button at the request, save the talk page, and remove the entry on this page.

Oppose: It's not clear what is meant by "Notable name" here. "Sifu" is an honorific, and Wikipedia mostly avoids attaching honorifics in article titles. The source that I checked in the article just calls him Robert McInnes. — BarrelProof (talk) 23:32, 18 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Is 'Department' the proper noun in these instances? Randy Kryn (talk) 14:52, 18 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Mbinebri: This move request has been contested and requires further discussion. If you would like to proceed with the move, please click on the "discuss" link in your request above. --Ahecht (TALK

@Adam Black GB: These are not uncontroversial per WP:NCAUST. Remsense 02:47, 19 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Remsense: Are they not? however, the name of a city or town may be used alone if the place is the primary or only topic for that name seems to indicate that as long as they're primary topics (which they seem to be), the disambiguator can be removed. I would've probably moved this bunch without this comment. Skarmory (talk • contribs) 11:23, 19 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Remsense, the policy clearly states as @Skarmory points out that the name of a town can be used alone without the state so I disagree that these are controversial in any way because they are all the primary topics for each name, highlighted by the fact that all of the targets of the moves I've requested redirect back to the longer disambiguated names. I can see, for example, why the town of Beverley, Western Australia needs disambiguation, but why does Pingelly when it is the primary topic? I withdraw my contestation. Remsense 12:25, 19 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
