Dr. Jasmin Pfeifer is a German linguist specialized in phonetics, phonology, psycholinguistics and amusia. She is also a very active in science communication.[1]. She holds a permanent position at the Institute for Linguistics, Heinrich-Heine University in Düsseldorf.

Bibliography

Jasmin started her higher education with a Bachelor of Arts in general linguistics, Heinrich-Heine-University, Düsseldorf focusing on Phonetics, historical linguistics and psycholinguistics. After the bachelor, she was accepted in the Master of Arts in general linguistics at the same University, focusing again in phonetics and psycholinguistics. Her Master's Thesis was entitled “An experimental study on the influence of congenital amusia on speech perception”, which was later adapted and published[2].

Once graduated, she pursuit a bi-national PhD in Linguistics at the University of Amsterdam, and her Alma-mater: Heinrich-Heine University in Düsseldorf. Her thesis was entitled "Speech perception impairments in congenital amusia[3]".

Currently, Jasmin holds a position at the Institute for Linguistics, Heinrich-Heine University in Düsseldorf. Apart from research and teaching (Phonetics, Phonology, Historical Linguistics, and Psycholinguistics), she is the manager of the Phonetics Lab, and she is the Program Coordinator of the B.A., and the M.A. in Linguistics[4].

Furthermore, she has been awarded with several national and international grants, both for research, and science communication purposes, including a Citizen Science Project: “Über „Klöß“, „Kruserich“ und „es Mädlä mit’n Klädlä“[5] – Den heimischen Dialekt erforschen, erwandern und dabei Grenzen überschreiten” which includes the analysis and documentation of a German dialect „Stänichä“ from the Thüringen region.

She is as well researching the genetics basis of Congenital Amusia, and cooperating with the Folkwang University to educated future music teachers about congenital amusia.

In Science Communication, she has organized and/or participated in international events like Pint of Science[6], Brain Awareness Week[7], Science Fuckup Night[8], and national events like the Night of Science[9], and 'Echt oder Fake'[10]. She has appeared as well on TV[11][12][13], Radio[14], and has participated in many interviews[15][16], podcasts[17] and other media[18].
