Education
Mendes holds bachelor's degree in law from the University of Utrecht, Master of Laws, University of Utrecht (specialisation: public international law) and PhD in law from Leiden University on a thesis entitled Cabotage in International Air Transport Regulation.[1]
Career
Mendes began his career at the law firm Barents and Krans in The Hague, where he practised European Community Law, company law and bankruptcy law.[2][3] He also worked for the EC Delegation at the United Nations in New York.[4] He later moved to the Leiden University where he served as Director of the International Institute of Air and Space Law, and also was Director of Air Law Research at the International Institute of Air and Space law.[5][6]
He is the President of the European Air Law Association (EALA), Member, Scientific Council of the Aviatian Law Cours, LUISS University, Rome and a Member, Transport Chamber of the Arbitration Center of Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RSPP), Moscow and Professor h.c., Northwest University of Politics and Law (NUPL), Xi'An, China.[7][8]
