The assailant yelled out 'alahu akbar' in the video of the livestream. Hopefully a source will come out to support this.

On 15 April 2024, in Wakeley, a western suburb of Sydney, an assailant entered the Christ The Good Shepherd Assyrian church and stabbed four people, including bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel. It was the second mass stabbing in the city in three days, following the 2024 Bondi Junction stabbings.

Events

The stabbings took place in the suburb of Wakeley, 34 kilometres south-west of the Sydney CBD.[1] A terrorist reportedly entered the Christ The Good Shepherd Assyrian church[2] and attacked four people with a knife, starting with a bishop, Mar Mari Emmanuel,[1] by directing himself towards the altar.[3] The event was live-streamed, since the bishop was preaching.[2] The attacker was subsequently apprehended and taken into custody.[1][2][4]

Aftermath

Casualties

Four people suffered non-life-threatening injuries, including the bishop.[5] One of them was taken to Liverpool Hospital.[5] During the events, 11 ambulances were sent to the church to respond to the emergency.[6]

Riots

Large crowds gathered outside the church and the hospital, where it seemed that the attacker was being held. The crowds clashed with police[6] and attacked police vehicles.[7]

Legal proceedings

The attacker was taken into custody.[4][5]
