41Rory McCaffreyHCDE1rorymcc@uw.eduhttps://washington.zoom.us/j/97837692262How do we define the web?

Back in 2010, Wired an article, called the Web is Dead, claiming that applications are starting to restrict us from the internet and transform us from a search culture to a receiving culture. The Scientific American and Tim Berners-Lee rebutted this argument by claiming the world is more interconnected than ever and instead just warns about potential for corporate takeover. Wired would then release another article in 2014 saying that apps are actually a gateway instrument for accessing the web. And then, in 2018 Tim Berners-Lee writes his own piece that touches on how dominant platforms are absorbing each other and diversity on the internet is decreasing. What are your thoughts? How can we decentralize the internet? And how do you find something new?
