Governor Abbott Proclaims November 3rd Houston Astros Day In Texas

November 2, 2017 | Austin, Texas | Proclamation

Congratulations to the Houston Astros on your 2017 Major League Baseball World Series Championship!  Your team displayed tremendous character and grit, fighting through injuries and adversity to reach the pinnacle of our national pastime for the first time in the franchise’s 55-year history.  From the players, to the coaches, to the fans, it was a true team effort.

“Earn History” was truly a fitting motto to follow this season.  Not only did you successfully secure Texas’ first World Series title, but you were also the first franchise in modern-day baseball to win the pennant in both the American League and the National League.

This victory is a great honor for the Astros and the Houston community, which has been severely impacted by, and continues to recover in the aftermath of, Hurricane Harvey.  Like the Astros, Texans are known for their spirit and resolve, and in the wake of Harvey’s devastation, we were able to see the persevering nature of Texans on full display.  This championship will serve as inspiration to a city and state that is passionate about its sports.

At this time, and on behalf of my fellow Texans, I join you in celebrating this historic victory.  I applaud all your hard work and dedication.

Therefore, I, Greg Abbott, Governor of Texas, do hereby proclaim November 3, 2017, to be Houston Astros Day.
