Story Maps for the Classroom
THIS WORKSHOP IS CURRENTLY FULL. WE ARE TAKING REGISTRATIONS FOR OUR WAITING LIST.

Geographic Information System, otherwise known as GIS, is an incredibly powerful tool that is used in all aspects of life. Through the use of interactive, web-based maps, GIS allows for in-depth analysis on just about any topic. Story Maps add to the power of GIS by allowing you to combine maps with narrative text, images and multimedia content. The Arizona Game and Fish Department is pleased to announce a brand new professional development opportunity that will introduce educators to this exciting and easy-to-use technology tool.

This two-day workshop consists of two parts. During the first section, participants will learn how to use GPS and other digital data collection tools to develop multi-layered, online maps. In the second section, teachers will use their maps as the foundation to create a unique story map. This is considered a working training where a usable product will be developed at the end.

The workshop will take on Saturday, January 9 and Sunday, January 10, 2016 in the Phoenix area. Specific location information will be sent to accepted participants. Workshop will begin at 9am and will last until 3pm each day.

The workshop is free. However, space is limited and registration is required. Registration does not guarantee participation. Spots will be filled on a "first to register" basis. If all spots are filled, additional registrations will be added to a waiting list. All accepted participants will receive additional details as we get closer to the program.

Teams of educators from the same school are encouraged to register!

Educational activities will be geared toward middle and high school teachers. However, all educators are welcome to register. All participants will receive a certificate for 11 hours of continuing education credit. Participants will be responsible for their own lunch.

Complete the form below to register. Please understand that this workshop is currently full. We are taking registrations for the waiting list. We will contact people on the waiting list when and if spaces become available.
