Preparing for the project

  • Plan - Plan your project and explore its feasibility with The Salvation Army*. This will involve submission of a proposal for the project and possibly a presentation to The Salvation Army to allow us to have a good overview of the project, in order for us to support you accordingly.

    Please allow time for exploration and coordination for the project. As a rule of thumb, you may wish to "start small first" so that the project is manageable.

    • Note: Please note that all projects which involves the sale of goods or services to the public would incur GST (Goods and Services Tax). Kindly take this into consideration when planning for your project.

    • Breakdown of expenditureNote: Please note that the fundraising expenses should not exceed 30% of the total funds raised.

Please note that the project will need to be approved by The Salvation Army prior to its commencement. Upon approval, The Salvation Army may sign a Memorandum of Agreement with the fundraising project team.

  • Permission - Obtain (written) permission from the relevant authorities e.g. town councils, management/owner of buildings etc, to carry the project in their premises


Licensing & Fundraising Guidelines
(Only for projects involving public)


  • Who?
    Registered bodies/societies and companies apply directly to the Licensing Division of Singapore Police Force (SPF), for fundraising projects initiated and managed by them and which supports a charity.
     
  • What?Projects involving collection of money and/or property by means of house-to-house or soliciting on streets or other places.
     
  • When?
    Submit in your application to the SPF at least 14 days before the commencement of a fundraising event.

     
  • How?
    Apply for the House to House and Street Collection (HHSC) Licence with the SPF though PLUS (Police Licensing Computerised System) at http://www.spf.gov.sg/licence.

Moving forward in your project
  • PermitOnce the permit has been granted, provide a copy to The Salvation Army. We will then work closely with you to render support e.g. transportation, release of logo, CIP certification as necessary.
     
  • PublicityKindly note that all publicity materials and/or write-ups that makes references to The Salvation Army and/or uses its logo will need to be cleared by The Salvation Army's Public Relations (PR) Department, prior to dissemination. This is to keep our PR Department informed, allow us to provide support for your project as well as ensure the information is updated and correct. Please do submit these at least 1 month prior to your project publicity.
     
  • Proceed forward - Proceed with your project and have fun!
     
  • Plan - Plan the programme and running of the project on the actual day. We have also included a project run sheet to help you plan your actual day running of your project. You can download it here. The run sheet allows for the breakdown of the project to indicate the activity, rationale, contingency planning, logistic planning and allocation of tasks and responsibilities, to ensure a smooth and successful run.



Closing the project
  • Requirements & Reports 
    Fulfill all requirements, conditions and guidelines as set forth by the Singapore Police Force, National Council of Social Service, Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore, The Salvation Army and any other governing bodies e.g. submission of accounts (if necessary).
     
  • Handing-over donations
    Handing over of collection items and/or funds (kindly indicate (i) Name of contact person, (ii) Contact information, (iii) Project Name and (iv) Who and where we should address the receipt to (for fund donations)).
     
  • Debrief  Depending on the nature of the project, you may wish to conduct a debrief with your team and/or with The Salvation Army.
     
  • Sharing your experience
    We love to hear from you about your experience and also value your feedback on how we can do better. We would appreciate your feedback using the feedback form.

    We often feature interesting and meaningful projects undertaken by volunteers in our volunteer bulletin as well as on our blog. Should you wish to share with us on the project, we welcome you to submit a brief article describing your experience, learning points etc and high-resolution photos. We will inform you should we use your article and have it published on the blog.
