3rd Prince of Tennis Best Games OVA Reveals Promo Video, Visual, November 15 Debut in Theaters (Updated)

posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
OVA centers on Shūsuke Fuji vs. Akaya Kirihara match

The staff for the Tennis no Ōjisama BEST GAMES!! original video anime (OVA) project revealed on Saturday that the third OVA in the franchise will screen in theaters in Japan for two weeks starting on November 15. The anime will then ship on home video on January 28, 2020. The site also revealed a poster visual for the third OVA, and stated that a promotional video will stream on the anime's official website on Monday at 10:00 a.m. JST (Sunday at 9:00 p.m. EDT).

The third OVA will feature a match between Shūsuke Fuji and Akaya Kirihara from the Kantō Tournament.

The OVA project retells the story of the franchise's top matches. The first OVA, which features a match between Tezuka and Atobe from the Kantō Tournament, began its limited two-week screening in Japan last August, and shipped in Japan on home video last October.

The second OVA features two doubles matches: the first match is Shuichiro Oishi and Eiji Kikumaru's game against Hiroshi Yagyū and Masaharu Niō, while the second match is Ryō Shishido and Chōtarō Otori's game against Sahadaru Inui and Kaoru Kaidō. The OVA screened in Japanese theaters for two weeks starting on April 5, then shipped on home video on June 25.

Keiichiro Kawaguchi (Mayo Chiki!, Hayate the Combat Butler) is directing the project at M.S.C. Mitsutaka Hirota (The Prince of Tennis II, The Prince of Tennis II OVA vs. Genius 10) is returning to handle series composition and write the scripts. Akiharu Ishii is again designing the characters, and Cher Watanabe is returning to compose the music.

Takeshi Konomi's The Prince of Tennis and The New Prince of Tennis manga are also inspiring a new anime film. The film, titled Ryōma! Shinsei Gekijōban Tennis no Ōji-sama (Ryōma! Rebirth Movie The Prince of Tennis) will open in Japan in early spring 2020. The film will feature a completely original story that will take place in the three-month time period between the events at the end of the The Prince of Tennis manga and the start of The New Prince of Tennis manga.

Update: Bandai Namco Arts began streaming a 30-second video for the new anime on Monday.
