Whether writing epic fantasy/paranormal, WWII, or historical western romance, Heidi Vanlandingham’s books are sweet, where characters are inspired to overcome life’s hardships and loving families build strong communities.

Heidi's words:
I grew up near the panhandle of Oklahoma—what I claim is the “treeless armpit” of the state. While I dream of pines and mountains, my love of family keeps me here. My favorite things in life are laughter, in-depth talks with my son, fantasy-paranormal/western romance, music, and road trips.

This was a very enjoyable Mail Order Bride story.
I loved that he realized he had a problem if he was going to bring up and look after his friend's three children on his own and still be able to work. So he did what he thought would be a good idea - he married a Mail Order Bride.
She was on the run and with no place to go accepted his offer to marry her. She gets to know the children and they begin to trust her care deeply for her her.
So, two lonely souls. Of course warmth and attraction blossoms and flourishes in a most delightful way and they learn to trust each other.
The story is beautifully written and I found it very gripping and also easy to read.
This book was provided by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost and this is my unbiased review.

This story didn't speak to me. However, Alayna is on the run and finds herself on the steps of a church in Santa Fe. The pastor's wife takes her in and helps her with clothes and a place to sleep.

Jerome Riddick is a US Marshall who has suddenly inherited three children from a long-time friend. One of the children is a six-month-old girl; the other two are boys. Reddick is overwhelmed with the role of a parent. So when the pastor suggests Reddick get a mail-order bride, he agrees reluctantly. However, he doesn't have a choice. His work requires him to be away from home occasionally.

I found the final shoot-out to be over the top. The cover was ridiculous. Overall score = 3.5 stars.

Will They Find Love and a Family?

Alayna was trying to get away from an outlaw to get her freedom. She answered a mail border bride request. Jerome, a US Marshal, had recently inherited three children and needed someone to help take care of the children as he was struggling to take care of two boys and a baby girl. He did not count on his bride having a secret that could get them all killed. Read this book to find out how this story ended. I enjoyed this book and hope you enjoy it also.

Marshall Riddick is in desperate need of help. He needs to continue after a terrible outlaw but he's had to return home for a bit. He's taking care of his friend's 3 children after her death but he doesn't know anything about children.
Alayna is running from danger and agrees to marry Riddick.
This wasn't completely Squeaky Clean. There's also a fight scene.
I just couldn't get into this book.

terror of being caught

I have been wanting to get away from the man my father brought to the house, but he is so not going to let me go. So I had to come with a plan, but I so wished that we would make it away from him.

A good story that kept me involved in every minute of it. Alayna had lived quite the lonely life with her male cousin as her only friend. Like she said in the book, she lived with determination but without hope. That stayed true until she met Riddick and began to build a new life. Although she was building a new life, she was also checking over her shoulder a lot. She was afraid that the danger of her past would catch up with her and ruin her present and her future. Both main characters were good and Riddick has known pain in his childhood although his was different. He did step up and try to do his best for his friend's children even though he had no idea what he was doing. It was easy to be drawn into Alayna and Riddick's story pretty quickly. I keep calling him Riddick because that is what he was called throughout the story. The Reverend and his wife were good additions to the story. And responsible 8 year old Carl, wild card 6 year old Jake and baby Jenny were great too!
Looking for excitement and bad guys? Yes, it has that and a good HEA too.

The Bride's Deception by Heidi Vanlandingham Alayna is on the run from a dangerous past. Riddick is facing a present he's not prepared for--his childhood friend's orphan children. When they agree to an arranged marriage, neither are expecting to find love or a dangerous adventure. This story has both. Set in New Mexico around the time of the Lincoln County wars, the author has presented an enjoyable story full of both heart and action.
