Kathy Gibson reports from SAP TechEd in Barcelona – SAP has announced a strategic partnership with Apple.

“We believe these are two companies that are reimagining how people work together,” says Bernd Leukert, member of the executive board at SAP.

With the new agreement, Apple’s iOS will be embedded into the SAP kernel.

The two companies are also co-developing iOS applications.

SAP’s user interface Fiori, together with iOS, will deliver a better user experience on all devices, Leukert says.

SAP’s Bjorn Goerke unpacks the Apple announcement, explaining that Fiori developers will now have a software development kit (SDK) for iOS that will allow them to build SAP solutions that run natively on Apple devices.

He points out that Fiori already lets developers build applications that run on any device. The Apple partnership, however, allows them to build applications on iOS that can be taken offline and still offer a native iOS experience that embraces the SAP enterprise capabilities.
