March 11, 2024

Dear Oxford College neighbors,

Our students are enjoying a well-earned rest during Oxford College's spring break this week. While many are visiting friends and family, several students are participating in opportunities such as global travel courses in Ghana and the Bahamas and an Alternative Spring Break trip to the Gulf Islands National Seashore. During Alternative Spring Break, students will assist with service projects including shorebird nesting, trail and marine maintenance, and learning about endangered species. Many thanks to these students and Megan Hulgan for coordinating the program!

We were excited to host the Leadership Newton County program during their campus visit last month. Leadership Newton class members participated in a campus tour coordinated by the Office of Enrollment Services, ate lunch in the Dining Hall, and heard from a panel including Dr. LaTonia Taliaferro-Smith and students Che Skeete 24Ox, Madeleine Lepley 24Ox, Johanna Romero 24Ox, and Taylor Daniels 24Ox.

I hope you will consider joining us for some of the upcoming events we are hosting over the next month. If you have any questions or ideas for partnership, please reach out to Laura Gafnea, Oxford College's Director of Community Relations.

Warmly,

Badia Ahad

Oxford College and the City of Oxford hosted the first Community Classroom of the semester last Monday evening at Oxford City Hall.

Oxford Dining by Bon Appeitt led participants in a cooking demonstration including grilled salmon, gnocchi, and alfredo sauce.

Oxford Organic Farm CSA and Plant Sale

Now is the time to join the Oxford College Farm Community Supported Agriculture Program!

A CSA creates connection to the seasons by providing nutritious, sustainably grown produce in your climatic zone – think of it as a subscription program that allows you to be a steward of the land while eating well. Each week of the season you will receive an assortment of what the farm is producing: cooking and salad greens, roots, vegetables, herbs and more. Click here for more details and to sign up.

The Oxford Organic Farm will also host its Spring Plant Sale on Saturday, April 13 from 9am-1pm at the farm. The sale will include all kinds of plants for your garden-veggies, cut flowers, herbs, natives, and more.

Come join Dr. Michele Hempfling, Chief of Staff at Oxford College and self-proclaimed optimist, for this joyful session.
