Description

Professor Linda Gask is giving the 2016 Disability Lecture on ‘A Psychiatrist’s Experience of Depression’. Linda had a successful career as a psychiatrist and academic while living with mental ill-health. Her book ‘The Other Side of Silence’ give an honest and thought-provoking account of her experiences. She will be introduced by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Louise Richardson.

The lecture takes place in the Blavatnik School of Government.

Venue

The Blavatnik School of Government has a distinctive modern building, which has been designed to promote open discussion, interaction and collaboration. An important part of the brief was to create an environment where everyone could work and enjoy the space in the same way, regardless of disability.

The main entrance is in Walton Street.

The lecture takes place in Lecture Theatre 1 on the lower ground floor, which has a spacious tiered horseshoe-shaped layout. Individual chairs are used on the tiered seating to promote interaction, and in addition there are fixed benches around the top tier. There is ramped access for wheelchair users, and space for up to twelve wheelchair users. The capacity is 120 on the tiers, and another 40 on the fixed bench.

Refreshments will be served in the open Forum area, around which the teaching rooms are located, which brings natural daylight into the heart of the building.

Wheelchair access

The Blavatnik School of Government is fully accessible by wheelchair, with a level entrance from Walton Street and lifts to all floors.

Hearing loop

The lower ground floor has an embedded hearing loop throughout, and we’ll be using microphones for the speaker and questions.

Accessible toilet

There is an accessible toilet off the foyer.

Refreshments

Please join us after the lecture for a drink (non alcoholic elderflower fizz, fruit juice, water or wine) in the open Forum area outside the lecture theatres.
