General info

My primary sona is Desmond's vernid form.

All my sonas bleed aubergine. Like human blood, the shade gets lighter and darker depending on how much there is. This also means that when they blush, it's purple instead of red or pink.

Official Vernid Guide, and Deviations

LiLaiRa, the creator of the Vernid species, has authored an eight page guide for the species. Desmond's design deviates from the guide in a few different ways, which will be detailed later in this subsection.

Desmond's design deviates from the official guide in the following ways:

  • Desmond's blood is aubergine. See the General Info document for more information. (If you're reading this on GitHub Gist, scroll to the top of the page.)
  • Desmond does not have stripes on his back.
  • Desmond has noodle dragon whiskers that taper. See the provided reference images in the previous subsection.
  • Desmond's pawbeans are not the same color as his tongue/gums/inner ear. See the provided reference images in the previous subsection.
  • Desmond's teeth are white, but not blindingly so. See the provided reference images in the previous subsection.
  • Desmond does not have scales. (Not actually a deviation from the guide, but I still felt it worth mentioning here.)
    • Desmond also does not have spikes. He does, however, have a bit of back-pointing floof where Page 8 of the guide shows spikes. See desmond_talk2.png from the list of reference images.
  • The precice manner in which Desmond's eyeballs are depicted is largely up to the artist. I have some guidelines of my own for this, but they are squishy, and artists are allowed to play fast and loose with them:
    • The sclera should be white.
    • The dominant iris color should be the light blue from the refs.
    • The pupil shape can be round like a human's, slitted like a cat's, or semi-rectangular like a goat's.
  • Desmond's genitals do not follow the guide. See the NSFW refsheet.

Desmond's character differs from the official guide in the following ways:

  • Desmond is omnivorous.
  • Desmond does not worship dragon gods. He's not particularly religious.
  • Desmond is not hydrophobic. In fact, he occasionally enjoys swimming in rivers.
  • Desmond cannot spit acid.
  • Desmond does not find ear injuries to be specifically humiliating.

He sounds a bit like BD Wong, specifically in his male-presenting role in Mr. Robot:

  • Thinks he's hot shit. Occasionally is.
  • Biggest goofball in the galaxy.
  • Will begrudgingly accept leadership positions on a temporary basis if nobody else is willing to.
  • Mischievous, particularly in bed.
  • Crafty.
  • Always hungry. Always craving seafood.
  • Will absolutely go out of his way to step on that crunchy looking leaf on the street
  • Often hoisted by his own petard.
  • Will take a full shower at the soonest opportunity if he even gets the slightest bit dirty.
  • Not afraid to bite if he gets in a scrap. Has a very feral fighting style.
  • Casual when it comes to sex.
  • Cuddly
