About

Creative Conversations is a fledgling group of people at St Nic’s who have an interest in Art. We are interested in looking at ways that those who are wired as artists can help themselves and others better articulate worship and faith through artistic expression.

If you are an artist of any genre (poetry, painting, writing, sculpture, textiles…) why not join us at the Nottingham Contemporary at 2.00pm on Saturday, 11 March for a creative conversation around the theme of the Urban Retreat and, who knows, we may be inspired to produce something that could be used at the exhibition which will run alongside the Retreat in Holy Week?

For some, the conversation might be a walk through the city with a camera or sketchbook in hand looking for inspiration, for others it might be a creative chat over coffee.

The theme of the retreat will be based on this poem of Malcolm Guite’s

Jesus comes near and he beholds the city
And looks on us with tears in his eyes,
And wells of mercy, streams of love and pity
Flow from the fountain whence all things arise.
He loved us into life and longs to gather
And meet with his beloved face to face
How often has he called, a careful mother,
And wept for our refusals of his grace,
Wept for a world that, weary with its weeping,
Benumbed and stumbling, turns the other way,
Fatigued compassion is already sleeping
Whilst her worst nightmares stalk the light of day.
But we might waken yet, and face those fears,
If we could see ourselves through Jesus' tears
sign-up to let us know you are coming.
