Ava Bradley

Biography

Many years ago, in a galaxy far, far away, I signed my first contract with a small publisher who started me off on this wonderful journey. They handled everything from editing to marketing to cover design to formatting, and did a whole lot of hand-holding along the way.

Over the years I had the good fortune to work with six editors at four publishers. I learned so much from them, and those experiences were absolutely invaluable, but that journey was nothing compared to the voyage I’m on now.

I’ve since ventured off as an Independent, which feels like getting off a plane in a foreign country and hiking into the wilderness with nothing more than a Swiss Army knife. I format my own layouts, design my own covers, and hire my own editors.

And I do my own marketing. Promoting my books feels like standing on a mountaintop shouting to a vast valley below where I cannot see a single soul. I can only hope they are there, and they are listening.

I am completely alone.

Except for you, dear reader. If you liked my book, you can help this weary traveler by leaving a review at your favorite book retailer. Your reviews help my book stand out among hundreds of thousands of others, and help other readers like you find it.

Smashwords Interview

How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I have to admit, I'm a bargain shopper. I haunt the bargain sites and get the newsletters in my email box, and that's why it feels so great to find a gem. I've found a bunch, and those authors have earned a permanent spot on my "must buy" list.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Of course I do! And it was forty years ago. It was a fictional account of my adventures at horse camp, and I tried to get my mom to type it up on little book-sized pages. About three pages into it she said "forget this" and that was the end of my first attempt at a real story. Thankfully that didn't daunt me, and learned to type in Jr. High.

Honestly, though, I'm a firm believer in the books under the bed. While they might not be publishable, they serve as an important learning step in every writer's life. I firmly believe no writer should publish the first book they ever write. (Ducking as a tomato sails past my head. Hey, who threw that?) Seriously, any writer who is serious about making a career as an author will do everything they can to learn and grow every step of the way. Every single one of my author friends will agree their first book should never be seen by any living person, but served as a valuable learning tool when they were first starting out.
