Our Story
HOW WE MET:
The story begins November 1st, 2016 when Rose Trimper accepted a Facebook friend request from Kenneth Sterling Michel. But Ken wasn’t your typical online stranger. They had a mutual friend—Erin—who decided to play matchmaker. Pictures and glowing reviews of the stand-up nature of their character was shared to each.
Ken’s Reaction: “She’s breathtaking, but she’s over half the country away… what am I gonna do with that?”
Rose’s Reaction: “He’s cute.”
Erin told Ken of Rose’s reaction, and that set everything in motion. Ken excitedly checked his phone the next morning to see if she had accepted his friend request. Rose deliberately waited the whole night to accept it just to keep him in suspense.
“Hey Awesome friend of Erin!” – Ken’s pick-up line. Effectiveness: 10/10
Reasons Rose accepted his request:
He had a good recommendation
He liked cats
He was cute
HOW WE STARTED DATING:
The two clicked immediately. Talking every day for two weeks until Rose, wanting to make sure Ken was real, asked him on a Skype date. Ken naturally accepted. He swears only a half hour passed during their conversation, but the 3-hour time stamp at the end of the call solidified one thing to both of them: There was C H E M I S T R Y.
The two couldn’t wait to meet in person, and a plan was made to meet over the weekend of New Year’s Eve. Ken flew out to Baltimore and stayed for 5 days; in that time they created an inside joke—live a little— by the time he left, they were officially dating. Rose’s cat Lena had given the needed stamp of approval.
THE PROPOSAL:
In 2022, the world was opening up and Ken finally got his hands on a passport. Rose, being the well-seasoned world traveler that she is, booked their first all-inclusive tropical vacation to the beautiful Dominican Republic. Ken started planning for a surprise they wouldn’t soon forget.
Between booking the trip and departure there was a life changing moment that affirmed Kens decision to pick a ring and make a proposal to spend life together. You know what they say about the best laid plans… of cats and men… the ring was delayed and didn’t make the trip. Despite this, Ken was undeterred—he found a way.
June 3rd, 2022: Standing under two crisscrossed palm trees, beneath a starry sky, at the shore’s edge, and witnessing a storm off on the horizon, Ken dropped to a knee, Rose said yes.
