Vow Duet #2

Vow to Protect

Rate this book
I'm not a hero.

I’m a De Courcy billionaire. A single dad who’s lost his way, but I’ve put the never-ending parties on hold, trading drugs for bedtime stories and alcohol for girly tea parties. These days, I have sole custody of my daughter. That’s what happens when you accidentally knock up a hot stripper. Babies are dropped off on your doorstep.

Tilly De Courcy is my only priority. My whole world. An anchor holding me to sanity in the long months following my girlfriends death.

Then, Raen Cartier shows up out of nowhere, claiming to be my daughter’s family and begging for my help. She’s a stunning contradiction of beauty, scarred by torture. And as much as I try, I can’t deny the stir of intrigue that’s suppressed by grief.

It’s forbidden. Unwanted. A buzz. Pleasure instead of pain.

Raen’s days are numbered. She claims her blood runs through my child. And I’m her hope in a hopeless situation.

Sparks fly. Chemistry bonds us. But real life isn’t straightforward. She has to escape the psycho who’s stolen her existence. It’s dangerous. Blood will spill. People will die.

Can I risk everything to help a beautiful stranger find safe passage out of Ireland forever. And most of all, when the time comes, can I let her leave?

Wow...! This book is gripping, gritty and deliciously detailed.
Ms Archer has woven a web of terror, pain and dare I say hope?!
Raen is enduring her worst nightmare...the only problem..... it is her real life.
After witnessing the violent and bloody murder of her only sister she finds herself forced into a world of criminals and can see no way out....
Brett is finally crawling his way clear of his grief filled fog. He has set aside the bottle of whiskey and is desperately trying to focus on his little girl and to get past the loss of his future wife.
Can Brett help Raen escape her captors and send her safely to a new life or is he still too deep in his own grief to offer her the support she needs?
This story kept me reading and I was on the edge of my seat at a couple of places with everything crossed for Raen and Brett.
I found the writing style interesting at times and Ms Archer’s descriptions are certainly very exact with lots of similes and a lot of words! The moments of tension and suspense had a completely different feel to the other parts of the book...almost as if the author herself was getting lost in the visuals of the scene. This world has some very colourful characters that I am intrigued to learn more about.

Eh. I wanted to love this book because single dads and innocent children are... so precious.

But - We never got much of Tilly and Brett. Their conversations were just... just.
Again, all Brett and Raen had sex. Their chemistry was nothing but lust. Raen wanted Brett because he saved her, and was her hero. Is this kind of Stockholm Syndrome? There relationship should have been more than lust and all that saving.
Then, no characters development. Natalie just got an prologue.
And, no proper update to what is going with Caleb and Freya, though they are present many a times.

I will repeat what I said for the earlier book in the series - This story has so much potential. But, the end product was not to the mark.
(I think Aly Martinez's The Regret Duet is so much better than this.)

This book was kinda dark but oh so very well written. The whole story was captivating. One wouldn't want to stop reading.

Brett De Courcy has been in a dark place after his fiancé's death, surviving only thanks to his daughter Tilly. She was thrown into his arms as a newborn and he has taken care of her ever since, as her birthmother Natalie couldn't take care of her out of safety.

After Natalie's murder, her sister Raen seeks help with Brett, so she won't fall another victim to the worst underground boss in Dublin, Blaine Carter. At first Brett denies Raen his help due to his idea about her playing scam towards him. But when he sees her at a club and the way she's been treated, he recognises his mistake.

His priority is to keep Tilly save but the want to help to free Raen from  Carter's grip is driving him insane. What he hasn't counted on was Ryan's gratitude and the pull of attraction between them, which are hard to resist.

Can Brett succeed, help Ryan out and keep his family save at once?

I loved every second of this amazing book.

I could not put this dark twisted tale down! Brett De Courcy is a single father to his six year old daughter, Tilly. This girl has become his whole world when his fiancee, Syrah is killed. Raen, is a woman who unknowingly is dragged into a nightmare of a life by her older sister. Raen is forced to watch her sister, Natalie's violent death then she is taken by that very same man. Raen's sister leaves her with the knowledge of two secrets, one is Natalie has a daughter that she gave to the child's father. Two, a man's name, someone she could trust and go to for anything, Brett DeCourcy. This is an amazing twisted tale that takes place in the darker shadows as it slowly unfolds and builds. All I can say is read closely, keep all tidbits of information close and enjoy the fantastic ride this book offers. Enjoy!

Brett is raising his daughter Tilly wondering where her mother is while doing his best. Raen is risking her life coming to Brett for help but her sister said to do this. What she didn't count was for Brett to be cold and not wanting anything to do with her. She walks away believing her fate is sealed and without any hope of escaping the life her sister dragged her into. Brett can't stop thinking of the woman that showed up at his place and starts asking some friends questions about what she told him and what he learns makes him wants to help. Even if its just to send her on her way. Its not long before Raen has been swapped to someone new and when she's given a drink that is drugged she is stunned to wake up to find herself with Brett. Does this mean she's safe? Can they take down the man that's the threat? Will Brett claim Raen for his own?

This is an amazing story that will have you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.

Wow! This was such a dangerous adventure with two people that were very tormented!! Brett had lived through his future wife being murdered. Raen had lived through seeing her sister murdered right in front of her. The story that ensues and the dangerous twists and turns teach us that family is what you make and not necessarily from who you think. Brett is a single dad to a six year old little girl named Tilly. She is beloved by all who know her.
The people in her daddy’s life are for the most part also part of hers. The others though should be no where near any children.
This was a eye opener that I couldn’t put down once I started it. It was a little verbous but worth every word to get to the HEA! Brett is fighting many demons in his life, some internal and all very real! Have patience with this man who is almost the most struggling tormented man that I’ve ever read!
We all make mistakes in life and this book shows that even when we do, hang on and fight to get on the other side of them and life can be happy. As long as you are willing to work on it to be that way. I was emotionally wrecked reading this. At least until the HEA!!

I love it! The characters have a depth that lets you in, to see their struggles. And the story keeps you interested until the end. I read it in a go. The perfect balance between romance, inner demons, and twisted turns kept me curious. Good book.

A darker read than I usually read. I liked this book. Told from mainly Brett's point of view, I was in agreement with just about everything he said and did. Raen, had her say as well, but not as strongly as Brett did.

Brett is struggling and tormented by past demons, and he is a single dad to a little girl Tilly who is understandably his only priority. Raen is forced to witness her sisters murder of her sister, and she seeks out Brett for help as her niece is her sisters’ daughter. This is a well written story which is dark, intense, raw, gritty, and twisted, and with angst, suspense, danger, emotions, and is an emotionally charged riveting read. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I recommend.

Brett has thrown away the bottle in order to focus on the only thing that matters to him. His little girl.
Raen and Brett's world are about to collide. Can h help her escape?

Raen's last hope for rescue is her sister's ex. The father to her niece. The billionaire who doesn't trust. But when he turns her down flat, she knows her life is now forfeit. Will Brett rethink his rejection of Raen's plea? Can he bring himself to trust she's telling the truth?

Vow to Protect is intense and more than a little painful to read. I really liked it, though, was rooting for Raen and Brett to make it through to the other side, happily in love. They had to go through so much, endure so much pain, both of them, but it only made both of them stronger, made me more on edge as I waited for them to find the happiness they so deserved.

Brett De Courcy has lost the one woman that he loved and wanted to make a life with. The tragedy broke him, and he spiraled out of control. The way he was able to come back was when his cousin Kaleb held an intervention and his daughter, Tilly’s sweet face finally brought him out of his darkness. He still battles that darkness and fights it every day, but when he meets a young woman on the street outside of his apartment one night his darkness could be cleared, and she could bring him to the light. The trouble is that he has shut his heart off and doesn’t trust himself or anyone to give him a happily ever after.

Raen Cartier is in need of someone to save her and help her get away from the monster that has turned her life upside down and taken the only person that she had left from her. Her life is no longer her own and she needs saving. The only person that she believes can help her is Brett De Courcy. When he denies her and tells her to stay away from him and his daughter, she has to figure out a way to get herself clear of the monster.

So many secrets will be revealed in this story. The story is full of tragedy, darkness, danger and heartbreak. I love the characters; they are so deep and soulful, and the story pulled me in from the first page and held me captive until the end. Out of the darkness comes light and healing with the right person beside you. It takes an Angel to bring the light and Raen finds her inner strength to be the protector and the Angel that is needed in the strength that she finds from Brett’s help and her love for him and family. I give this story a 5-star review and would love to have more of Malakai and Alexander’s stories as well.

This series continues to deliver! Brett had so much pain and misery in the first book and I was so utterly intrigued by how his story would go from there. Raen has her own misery and horrors haunting her, so even though Brett utterly flattened her heart with his initial refusal to help her, she kept right on moving forward. And when Brett realizes that Raen is telling the truth and just how dire her situation is, he has to help. His only problem is that he can’t let go of his pain and guilt, nor can he simply give up and let them carry his soul into oblivion. So instead he’s faced with the very real temptation of the one woman he absolutely should not want. Raen has the same problem, but they can’t fight what the hearts want forever. And when it all falls apart, even I was surprised by how it all crashed down. I even knew something had to be coming to light the fuse under Raen’s feet and I was still shocked by it all. Of course, this author is becoming a master of making the best of horrid situations, so I wasn’t upset with with how everything had to fall apart to be fixed.

My only gripe is how I’m going to have to wait to see if Alex or Malakai get stories. I hope they do, because I’m pretty sure they’ll both be just as enthralling as Kaleb’s and Brett’s were. Fingers crossed for more of this series.

Romantic Suspense Perfection!! Vow to Protect is gritty, dark, suspenseful, steamy, angsty, and has the perfect dash of sweet. Raen is living in the depths of hell. After witnessing her sisters brutal murder and with a threat she will be next she turns to a man she has never met, a man her sister told her she could trust, Brett De Courcy.
Brett is currently living with his own dark cloud over his head. While he tries to clear the fog his main and only focus is on his beautiful little daughter.
When Raen storms into his life bringing complications he doesn't need. Can Brett keep her safe, help her escape from her captors, and set her up somewhere far away so she can be free? And when the times comes to set her free will he be ready? Can his heart take another loss?
What a ride!!! As I devoured this story my heart both ached and warmed, I was on the edge of seat biting my nails with anticipation, at times I gasped in shock and surprise, I found myself reaching for the tissues, and I hit those dreaded words The End feeling oh so satisfied and yet wanting more!!!

When Raen’s sister arrived in Barcelona to lay low for a few days, Raen had no idea that she would not only witness her sisters murder, but find herself scared and kidnapped by the man responsible.
When Raen turned to Brett for help, he was her last hope. Seven years earlier, her sister had a baby with him, leaving her with him to raise. Brett dotes on his daughter. His life was touched by tragedy when the love of his life was murdered. He tried to lose himself in booze, drugs and underground fighting. Anything to numb the pain. But he realised he wasn’t being a good enough father for Tilly and managed to get his act together. When Raen approached him he was naturally wary, but her story nagged at him and he asked his colleagues to help him look into it. Raen was being held by a human trafficker and in imminent danger.
When they formulated a plan to help her get away, the last thing that Brett expected was to find his heart at risk and also his family...
A well written and engrossing book that involves both Dublin’s elite and Dublin’s underground coming under fire. The characters are well written and believable. Raen and Brett are both inexplicably drawn to each other and have an undeniable chemistry. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Tormented Father.
A well do do single father has everything he could want, except he lost the love of his life and he's spiraling. He does have one focus, his precious daughter, Tilly. "Unconditional love", that's what it means to have a child. Out of nowhere a women shows up outside his condo and creates so many unanswered questions. Raen is desperate and has no where else to turn. Brett turns her away. This starts an unyielding path of destruction where there are quite a few players involved. The depth of the scenes is quite impressive and as a reader you spiral right along with the characters down the rabbit hole. There is depth and despair but also hope, strength and unicorns! This is my first read by this author and it won't be my last.

A Must Read!

Is there hope for a woman that will end up being a slave of things she doesn't want to do and a man that would rather drink instead of dealing with reality and experience pain instead of feeling pleasure?

Autumn Archer hooks you at page one, and just when you think you know what is going to happen, she surprises you with something else that you would never have guessed.

Brett is now a single dad since Natalie is gone. He doesn't believe that Raen is Tilly's aunt. After meeting with the Vertus Circulo, Brett finds out that Blaine Casey is even eviler than Raen has said. With the slight chance that he may believe her, he vows to help her get out and start over. When Tilly's life is in danger, Raen risks every to save her.

Brett makes a vow to protect Tilly and Raen and will do anything to make that happen.

Autumn Archer delivers another gripping dark romance filled with murder, intrigue, heartbreak, love and second chances.
Brett, a single father,is living a life of self destruction after the murder of his true love. His daughter is his life however he has been absent lately because of loss of his love. What will help him turn his life around?

One night a stranger comes to him asking for help. She tells him she is the sister of his daughter's mother and she is in trouble.   Will Brett believe her? Will he help her or turn her away?
Raen, the mysterious woman that asked for help, tells Brett that her sister was murdered and she was kidnapped by the killer.  The killer has erased her existence from the world, so if she went missing no one would be the wiser.  She needs Brett to help her get her life back and keep her safe.

What happens when he agrees is not what they both expected.  He traps her, she does not argue or try to escape. Will they both survive this?

Autumn does not disappoint the reader with this gripping story. Around every corner there is a twist. Just when you thought you had one thing figured out you are thrown a curve. The plot is one that is well written and gripping.  You get a feel for what the characters are feeling throughout the book.
I could not put this book down.  This is a definite addition to your TBR list.

Vow to Protect was a fantastically insane suspenseful ride that had my heart rate up. It's the story of single father, Brett, and Raen. She's in trouble after her sister was murdered right in front of her, and Brett is the only chance at help she has because he's the father of Raen's niece. Yes that's right, Brett hooked up with Raen's sister (who was murdered) and Raen's sister told her if she ever needed help go to Brett. Well, he wasn't so nice about Raen, who he didn't really believe was his daughter's aunt so the chaotic journey begins. She's on the lamb from a psychopath, while he's battling dark demons while trying to be a father. Not only does that make the angst sky high, but it also makes for insane twists coming in hot while I dropped all the f-bombs at the top of my voice, and there wasn't much that I did see coming. If you're all about a suspenseful plot, edge of your seat chaos, and angst with a side of heat, then Vow to Protect is totally your jam! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL!

Wow, this is a very dark, intense and captivating read. Brett is a single father raising his six yr old daughter Tilly and trying to recover from losing the love of his life, recovering from his bout with booze, drugs and his own demons. When Raen approaches him and asks for his help, she reveals to him that Natalie (Tilly’s mother) is dead and that she is her sister. The same evil man that killed Natalie is after her too. When Blaine’s men find her, she is as good as dead too. He is hesitant to believe her, he has a daughter to protect, but decides to help her and give her a chance to leave Dublin and start a new life. Raen throws Brett’s world upside down as he struggles to keep the memory of his true love and fight his attraction to Raen. A very captivating storyline that’s filled with danger, suspense, violence, kidnapping, mystery, twists and turns, and a healing for two broken people. Loved it and highly recommend this book.

I was so sad when Syrah died in Vow of Revenge. Here we see Brett trying to come back from losing his future wife, after drowning himself in alcohol, drugs, and sex to forget. He has Tilly to think and care about, after all. One night he's approached by someone who claims to be Natalie's sister and she is asking for help. He hasn't seen Natalie, Tilly's mom, in a while but that isn't unusual. This is the start of a very complicated, angsty, relationship.

Both Brett and Rain have huge, dark issues they need to work out and I loved reading about it! They go through a lot but eventually get to a HEA. I hope this series continues with the other members of the VC. It's too delicious a series to end here.

The Vow to Protect by Autumn Archer is the perfect mix of heartbreak, angst, temptation, romance and darkness. I absolutely loved the chemistry between Brett and Raen because it felt like their connection was forbidden but also meant to be at the same time.

I love the strength that Raen has and I admire her for surviving the awful things that were done to her. I like how Brett comes across as being uncaring and cold but deep down he has a beautiful heart that has been hidden beneath a cloud of personal demons.

The ending!!! It was one of those moments where your heart breaks into a million pieces but then the author is like just kidding. This was the first book that I have read by Autumn Archer but it definitely won’t be the last.

I recieved an advanced copy for free, and this is my honest opinion.

This is a very dark romance with twists you won't see coming. Not usually my normal read but was drawn in.
Brett and Raen were brought together by the death of her sister, Natalie whom she watched being murdered. Their ties are to Brett and Natalie's child, 6 yr old Tilly, who Brett is raising. Raen comes to Brett asking for help to get away from the man that murdered her sister. Brett has never met her and isn't sure he even believes her or does he dare not too? Time will tell.
Family may not be what you think it is or who.
Violence seems to follow Brett so just when you think you know what's going to happen, the twist comes. Hang on to your seat!

Twisted Hopelessness

When even hope seems hopeless.

Prologue opens up to a woman, Natalie Carter, being tortured to death as her sister, Raen, is being forced to watch due to backstabbing one Blaine Casey, AKA Blade.

Leaving an almost 7-yr old Tilly, Natalie's secret daughter from a one-night stand from her days as a stripper.

Brett De Courcy, single dad to Tilly, and whose ex was murdered by her ex-boyfriend, chapter starts us off two weeks after the prologue. Unbeknownst to him at the beginning, he did not know of Natalie's demise.

Raen now has taken the reigns of Natalie's vow of servitude to Blaine. Living as a prisoner held in an invisible cell of threats. She seeks out Brett with hope that he will help free her from.

Being a billionaire, Brett, is a part of the Vertus Circulo, a group of members who has the world in their hands. Together they seek to not only free Raen, but bring Blaine and his operation down.

From death, to insanity, to mania, to lust and steamy moments. The story is about loss, about two broken souls coming together through wishes of hope. His emotions ran hot and cold, while trying to keep Tilly and the ghost of his ex at the forefront. Hers range from lust to fear and needy in-between. I admit, it perturbed me that she wasn't understanding the primary need should be Tilly's safety.

The cracks in each of their hearts scream in yearning as they their lives become evermore twined leaving heartache in their wakes the longer Brett hides Raen from Blaine. All the while bringing Blaine's group closer and closer, becoming a dangerous situation for Tilly as well.

Everything come clashing together in a spectacularly dark and twisted way. Holy moly, did not see that one coming. Actually, two big twists. Then another twist.

Ends in a flourishing HEA and am looking forward to storylines following the rest of the Vertus Circulo if the author continues that route.
