A Coronation Street star's family run cafe has won over the public thanks to its delicious treats and inviting atmosphere.

Morley Tearooms, run by Emma Gleave, wife of Coronation Street icon Simon Gregson, who is well known for his role as Steve McDonald is located in Cheshire.

Everyone who walks into the cute little cafe is greeted with a smile by their cheery staff as soon as you walk through the door.

You also get a chirpy "good to see you again", and punters nestle into their "favourite" spot in the floral-emblazoned cabin set next to a garden centre.

Even during the mid-week lunchtime rush, when the place is packed with regulars, the staff have time for you. Although the food is the star of the show, this quaint little cafe also has its celebrity links.

Simon knows how great his wife's bakes are, especially having sampled them over the last 13 years of marriage. The corrie star is often seen tucking into a huge slab of cake or even helping out when they need another set of hands.

However, Emma's spectacular baking skills are no longer a Gregson family secret. And her cakes have created such a buzz that on weekends you can expect to queue for them.

Manchester Evening News Journalist Dianne Bourne took a trip to the cafe and here's what she thought of her experience.

The café itself has a range of tables inside, and there's also a bench of colouring pads and pencils for younger guests to enjoy. On sunny days you've also got the added bonus of a raft of outdoor seating too.

And as for those cakes? Oh the cakes. Giant wedges of sponge cakes, in a variety of daily-changing flavours all stacked in shelves of tasty temptation. There's the likes of a classic chocolate fudge, carrot cake and lemon drizzle.

For me, the litmus test of a good baker is always a Victoria Sponge so that's what I go for. And it's honestly among the best cakes I've ever tasted (having devoted way too much of my life to eating cake).

The sponge is so light it’s as if angels have whipped the thing together. The jam in the centre is a glorious gloop with lumps of fruit, all topped with a layer of fluffy cream.

You can have it served with a little pot of cream or ice cream too. Incredibly, it's a mere £3.75 for this epic plate of sweet dreams.

It’s so good I feel like rushing over to Emma and giving her a Paul Hollywood style handshake like we're in Great British Bake Off.

Just as all good cake should be, it makes you nostalgic for something in your past. While feeling very glad that you’re getting to eat this very much in the present.

I ask her how she makes it taste so good but she laughs. I say seriously HOW does she make it - at this point she dashes off. She’s rightly keeping a recipe this good close to her chest.

I'm just annoyed I didn't take another slice (or three) home. At this point, I should probably tell you there is a full menu of other food that isn't cake at the café. Indeed, punters all around me are tucking in to the hearty full cooked breakfasts (£9.95), omelettes (£8.50) and toasties (£6.50) that are on offer.

But I can also tell you that pretty much everyone orders a cake afterwards. Or leaves with a slice to take home. Maybe even both. Café owner Emma realised a "lifelong dream" in opening her own tearooms, after visiting this spot as a customer with her family for years. She told the MEN earlier this year: "I'm working seven days a week but I love it."I'd always said I wanted a café and years ago when Simon and I first met I bought a tea set and said to him 'one day I'm going to have a tea shop'. Now, 15 years later, here we are, it's come true."

And may we all be thankful that this particular dream did come true. And that we all get to experience a little bit of it too.
