The Promise (The Piecer Chronicles) Paperback – May 23, 2019
Purchase options and add-ons
When the aliens attacked, humanity was nearly wiped out.
There weren't enough fighting men or women left alive to defend Earth. Desperate to survive, the Piecer Corp plan was initiated; thousands upon thousands of DNA manipulated recruits were created to defend Earth. But they needed them now, so they created the "Sixers," grown adult soldiers in as little as six years. It worked. They beat them back. A truce was called and Earth rebuilt.
After twenty years, the Earth was repopulated, humanity salvaged; human soldiers could now take the place of manufactured Piecer Corp soldiers, ending the Corp.
Current day: celebration for the graduation class of 2173. For the members of the Piecer Corp it was over. Chase 523, a Piecer fire team leader wondered if this was the last day he would see his team again. They could now live a normal life and take their place among the normally conceived humans, and start families of their own. To celebrate, the first Starship ever built, "The Promise", was flown to the stadium in their honor. The graduation ceremony was to be held in the Piecer Academy stadium. General Gilbert Tupi, a "normie" soldier presiding over the ceremony, congratulated them all and dismissed them from military service.
That's when the sky lit up.

5 Stars Reader's Favorite
Maxx Powr has created a realistic future world in The Promise, where genetically engineered young men take on the responsibility of fighting for planet Earth. With interesting weapons and space ships and a variety of aliens to contend with, there is enough science fiction to please any fan. Well done, captivating and with
some good surprises. Young adult readers will also be pleased with the camaraderie between the Piecers and their issues as young men thrust into a serious situation, one which they never expected to encounter. All in all, The Promise is well written with plenty of action, realistic dialogue and enough surprise twists to engage any
reader.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 8, 2019First books are always difficult and as a reader, you are apprehensive as to the quality. Rest assured, you will enjoy this book! Most of the books I've started but not finished suffer from making me care. The author quickly capture my attention with the quality writing and strengthened that with characters I quickly cared for. I wanted to know what happens to them and that keeps me turning the page. Additionally, the story and its twists and turns take you from earth to space provides various story elements which captivate the reader. I very much enjoyed reading this book at look forward to the second book in the series! For the author: stop reading this and finish book #2!! : )
- Reviewed in the United States on December 6, 2019A very imaginitive and compelling first novel. I'm not a sci fi hardcore reader but i found this to be a enjoyable read nonetheless. If any one can save mankind in a dark futeristic world its Maxx Powr!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 22, 2019This is an action packed story about a group of young Piecer Cadets that are thrown into a war to save Earth. The reader will be pulled into this adventure in the very first chapter and will be held captive until the end. You will meet a very interesting group of characters that make the story both exciting and highly enjoyable. All I can add is that I hope Maxx Powr is working on Book 2 for these Piecers.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 18, 2019With a cross between Lord of the flies and Blade Runner, this coming of age book keeps you riveted to every chapter. Keep your eye on this up and coming writer because he will not disappoint. I'd recommend for ages 12 too 79, only because a 80 yr o!d's heart wouldn't be able to take the ride. I can't wait for Maxx Powrs next book.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 19, 2019I am excited to see where Maxx Powr takes us in his next adventure! The Promise gave us action, and humor with a few adult situations! I enjoyed how the Author took me on a ride without leaving the comfort of my own home and I was able to visualize every scene as the entire book was very descriptive and made me feel like I was in the scene with the characters!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 11, 2019I liked the character development of the kids, they became personable pretty quick. I liked the book for the most part but was thinking there were too many clichés, but after thinking on that for a bit, kids use a lot of clichés so I was okay with it. The Author needs a better proof reader for sure, would make all the difference. The ending was a little predictable but there was a twist I liked, the traitor dies, maybe! We'll see if he shows up in the sequels. I hope the Author tries again soon. Chronicles does tend to make one think of other offerings.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 1, 2020The Promise: Book 1 of the Piecer Chronicles, begins with the “graduation” of the Piercer Corp. Brothers Chase and Loose, and their corp friends. are graduating from the only life they've ever known. Twenty years before, the earth was invaded by the Klix in the Great War. The Sixers, a group of genetically engineered soldiers, saved the Earth from the Klix, but on the day of graduation, the Klix return with a vengeance. At least one of them has supported the enemy!
The well-trained Piercer graduates take it upon themselves to stop the enemy and save their families. They bring the Promise ship out of retirement, and use it to fight their enemies throughout the solar system and perhaps among themselves. Where do loyalties lie? Do they save their families? Do they save the earth from the Klix? Is there the potential for love, despite the galaxy wars? What is the true meaning of "The Promise”?
Opinion:
The Promise: Book 1 of the Piecer Chronicles is an engaging and riveting novel. Most of the time while reading, I was on the edge of my seat. The characters are highly developed, initially through dialogue and then through action-based experiences as the setting flips between past and present with ease and seamlessness. A love interest (or two) supports the ultimate purpose for saving the earth and balances the action scenes. Power’s dialogue-based description of events enhances the speed and pacing of the narrative. The Promise reads almost like a screenplay. In fact, I can envision this novel on the big screen one day. I imagine The Promise will be followed by an equally captivating sequel.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 10, 2019Probably one of the better sci-fi related books that I've read in a long time. Enjoyed it from start to finish and have red the book twice now. Such a great artist.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great debut
Fantastic debut novel, I loved it from start to finish and cant wait to read the follow on books that I have no doubt are coming. Action, adventure, humor and a little titillation added to the mix make this a great read that is hard to put down. The characters are diverse and easy to get emotionally attached to, whilst the adversaries are beyond any redemption. The author paints pictures in your mind from start to finish. Thank you for a very entertaining ride.
