4.3 out of 5 stars 2,630 ratings

She's looking for some summer fun. He’s determined to resist her. It’s only a matter of time before someone melts.

When I sign up to spend my final college summer teaching art in a small Georgia town, I don’t expect the job to include a sexy, grumpy farmer named Sam Reynolds, who owns the house where I’m staying. A little fling is all we want . . . until our hearts get involved, and I start thinking about crazy things like forever.

This summer, resisting temptation isn’t just impossible—it’s scorching.

Meghan Hawthorne is searching to find who she is and where she is meant to be. She has plans for this summer, and she isn’t looking for any type of permanent relationship. Sam Reynolds has responsibilities to his family and his farm. His plans do not include time for anything more than temporary “associations”. When fate intervenes and unexpectedly throws them together maybe this is the perfect opportunity to have a casual and temporary fling. After all, they are both headed in what they believe to be separate directions. Of course, fate has its own plans for these two, and there’s sure to be a course change ahead whether they are ready or not. To paraphrase from the book, when you’re not expecting it the right one is going to be the last one you’re looking for.

This is a wonderfully engaging tale, full of emotions, heartwarming and heart wrenching, some sass, a bit of hardheadedness, sweet romance and plenty of steam. You feel the connection between Meghan and Sam from the very beginning. One of the best scenes is when they officially meet at Boomer’s Garage. You can feel the electric attraction between the two. With such an explosive beginning, their relationship can only be quite a roller coaster ride with all its ups and downs. There will be parts when you may be brought to tears, but there is also a lot of joy and ultimately love. The characters are all so appealing, and the storyline will keep you involved from beginning to end. I highly recommend this delightful and touching love story! I can’t wait to read Ali’s story next!!

The Last One by Tawdra Kandle is a fantastic contemporary romance. Ms. Kandle has given us a well-written book and filled it with fun, lovable characters. Meghan is a college student that volunteers for a summer art program, teaching children that don't have the opportunity to learn about art in school. Sam is a farmer and has rescued Meghan and her friend when her car broke down. Meghan and Sam's story is loaded with drama, humor and sexy bits. The only thing I didn't care for in this story is it's written in the first person format. I think I'd have enjoyed it more in third person. But that's a personal preference. I did enjoy this story and look forward to reading more from Tawdra Kandle in the future. The Last One is book 1 of the Love In A Small Town Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

I voluntarily read a complimentary copy of this book that I received from Bookfunnel. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I’m going to a book convention soon and wanted to try new author that were going to be there. Ms. Kandle is going to be at the convention and The Last One was free, so I thought I would give it a try. I LOVED it. The story is a contemporary romance book told from Meghan and Sam’s alternating POV’s.

I really loved Meghan. She has a passion for art, quick wit, and is hard working. She genuinely loves people and life. She makes no apologies for her sexual past because it’s her past. That always drives me crazy in books when girls apologize for that. Guys don’t. Why should girls? I like how she can just be her true self around Sam.

Sam has some big walls he has built for a reason. He has taken on so much responsibility at such a young age. He tries really hard not to let Meghan in. He tries to cast her into different stereotypes that just do not fit a girl like Meghan. He realizes all of his thoughts on how she was were wrong and starts to let her in.

Meghan lets Sam know she is interested in him, but Sam is too stubborn to see what is in front of him. Thankfully Ali, Sam’s sister, intervenes and gives Sam the push he needed. When Sam and Meghan finally collide, they find their other half. Unfortunately, they both agreed this would be a summer fling and are afraid to admit their feelings. It was a very human thing to do but Ms.Kandle made it into something more. It was perfectly done.

The secondary characters and the town of Burton were as well written as Meghan and Sam. Ali, Bridgett, and Alex made a good story a great story. The town of Burton was full of life with Boomer, the guys at the hardware store, the kids at school, the Guild, the farmer’s stand, and Mr. Fred’s farm made Burton seem rich and full of life for a small farming community.

I absolutely love this story. The next book in the series is The First One is Ali’s story and wanted read Ali’s story from the moment I heard Ali tell her part of it. I downloaded it immediately and can’t wait to read it.

This was a fun, easy read with a unique story line. While I liked both Sam and Meghan, it took awhile for that to happen. It's interesting to have the heroine in the story be the one who is so casually about men. And, Sam is just such a jerk at first. But as they story unfolds, I did indeed like them although the age difference was a bit tough for me to swallow. Sam is 28 and Meghan is 21/22 - about to finish her last year in college. But, other than that, I was rooting for them to be together. Once they get together, there's lots of steamy scenes...fyi.
It was fairly predictable (at least for me) but overall a good read.

I actually think I will enjoy the 2nd book more since I am a big fan of first/lost loves. I'll defintiely be reading more from this author.

Beautiful cover, great title and good story line..... However, I couldnt go past chapter 3. It's the first time I give a review like this to a book that is actually well written. I mean that in the three chapters I read they were not spelling mistakes, grammar errors etc... The huge issues were strategic and in the formation of the book. The connection and the meeting between the two characters makes no sense. Chapter 2 is completely useless and brings nothing to the book but confusion. The two girls (main character and her friend) went to a party and car broke down on the way back. The male characters stops to save the friend given the main character is drunk at the back. She is completely out of it, but he feels something towards her, as she opens her eyes (drunken eyes) for a micro second. The following week, they meet again and she recognises the "beautiful brown eyes" of that night... That's absolutely unrealistic and incredible.

Second, the whole chapter is about the friend and him talking... to the point where I thought the story must have been about them.

My advice to the author would be to look at the story editing or story building basics and remove all the unessential pieces that bring the book down. Those were important oversights that would not have the book accepted for publishing with any publishers. A shame because the writing is good.

Something to consider. But in this current form, I did not recommend this book.

The Last One is #1 is the first book in the, The One Trilogy by Tawdra Kandle.

Let me just start off by saying this is one of the good old fashioned romance novels. In my opinion this is has something many romance novels are missing but I can’t quite put my finger on it. As I sit on my bed writing this review at 4am just because I couldn’t put it down and I wanted to immediately put my thoughts into words but that’s what this book did to me. It made me think about all the other romance books I’ve read and how this one stood out from all the rest but like I said, I can’t quite put my finger on what made this book special because that’s what it is, it’s one of them rare books that are actually special and will stay with you. I won’t say much about the plot but I will say this, this is a love story in every aspect of the word. And a brilliant one at that.
If you’re looking for a love story that will have you reaching for the tissues, wiping your eyes from laughing and overall just a brilliant book? Read this one.

    5 stars.

This is the first book I've read by Tawdra Kandle and it won't be the last. Meghan comes across as if she has life all worked out, dig deeper and you find she is lost. That's until she joins Artcorps and meets Sam. At first they don't hit it off but love builds slowly between them. Sam has a beautiful soul, he loves his family and his family's land. Sam has sacrificed so much to hold everything together. Until Meghan, she is one special woman he can't live without.
This is a slow build love story, it has many wonderful characters and is well written. I'm looking forward to reading Ali's story!
