"Brilliantly original. High art world building. Irreverent, intelligent and delightful." — Austin Teutsch, best-selling author of King George.
Prison Pyramid: (356 pages) is a high-concept techno-thriller set in a futuristic prison in the vein of Philip K. Dick, Michael Crichton, Thomas Harris, and Jules Verne. When conspiracy theorist Axel Storm is wrongly convicted, he's sent to The Pyramid – a maximum-security correctional facility that stands a mile high and a mile across – home to two million felons. At first, the prison seems like a self-sustaining utopia, with subterranean fish farms, aquaculture and waste treatment levels. Recidivism rates are surprisingly low. Are inmates really being rehabilitated? Storm soon discovers the mother of all conspiracies: The Pyramid is repurposing convicts to serve the Quackenbush Corporation, a world leader in corporate and industrial security. The trouble is, Storm’s notoriety makes him both a prize catch and a dangerous whistle-blower. Can he survive The Pyramid long enough to reveal its secrets to the world?

- Reviewed in the United States on June 13, 2018A totally engaging, hair-raising ride through a carnival of pain with moments of ecstasy, Dax Xenos’ Prison Pyramid has more twists and turns than a bucket of spaghetti. Brilliantly scripted (as perhaps only someone who intimately knows the inside can do), and convincingly populated by a menagerie of bizarre characters, Prison Pyramid keeps you on the edge of your seat as our hero discovers the moral bankruptcy behind the futuristic, privately-owned, world’s largest, most elaborate, and most secure prison run by the evil genius Dr. Zordic. Now our hero must choose between the probable suicide of an attempt to escape or a lifetime of slavery. The reader is left wanting more—one reason why the story cries out for adaptation to the big screen.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 15, 2018Prison Pyramid had everything from a futuristic view of the prison system to the politics that created and ran it. Thrown into the criminal system Axel Storm is a man who has been wrongly accused so they may utilize his talents to further their agenda. In this Goliath vs David battle, he is pitted against the Prison Pyramid. With the cards stacked against him, only time will tell if he can overcome the insurmountable odds. The highest compliment I can give is it’s a story I didn’t want to end and have hopes there will be more to come.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 25, 2018I bought the book on the recommendation of a friend. I am more a student of history than futuristic novels. However, after starting the book I couldn’t put it down completing it in just three days. The story and setting are both thought provoking and entertaining as you try to anticipate the plot twists and turns. I highly recommend the book as highly entertaining with a knowledgeable author.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 22, 2018Positioned as an adventure tale — Prison Pyramid extrapolates the field of private corrections into the near future. A dystopic view wherein behavior modification with its system of rewards and punishments is king. If you’ve never thought about an alternative to an expensive state base system that currently houses over 2 million souls — this may be a wake up call!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 25, 2018Pick this book up and you will not be able to put it down. Great story, incredible research and wonderful characters. The story follows the only possible outcome of government as it tries to control everything but itself. Hope it becomes a movie.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 23, 2018An original, entertaining novel. In the "Prison Pyramid," the protagonist, Axel Storm struggles between conflicting values of his own physical survival and his dedication to exposing the corruption of society's leaders. Unjustly convicted of conspiracy, Axel Storm is sent to the Pyramid, a futuristic dystopian prison. Under the facade of criminal rehabilitation, the Pyramid serves as a metaphor for a totalitarian society. At the top, Dr. Vladimir Zordic runs the Pyramid through operant conditioning, molding people's behavior and ideas through a system of rewards and punishments. Appropriate behaviors and ideas are rewarded with better food, living facilities, and more privileges. However, all is not what it appears. Those thought to be beyond redemption become the societal dregs, forced to battle for survival in a dog-eat-dog world. Graft permeates the Pyramid. At the lower levels, petty corruption is overlooked, provided that efficiency is maintained. At the highest levels, gourmet affairs and debauchery provide impetus to champion the proliferation of the Pyramid model. A highly thought-provoking read.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 18, 2018Thank you to goodreads for sending me this book for an honest review. I will not give a synopsis here as that has been already been given. The premise that a private corporation can and will take over the incarceration of the world's prison population is interesting and may already be possible. Here in the United States there are already for profit companies running various prison systems. The conversations within the story are sometimes stilted and not what you would get when just talking, especially in a prison environment. There are extensive diagrams of 'The Pyramid' that show the thought that went into the prison concept by the author. The descriptions of the mechanics of running the prison are quite detailed but may or may not be actually doable. The ending was seemingly very abrupt, as though the author simply ran out of time and just slapped on an epilogue. This book is published by American Visionary Artists. A quick Google search finds no mention of that company. Very strange.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 23, 2018If a little sci-fi is your pleasure, this futuristic tale is full of good stuff. The writer is a great story teller. His descriptions are the best, his characters are alive, his knowledge of philosophy, engineering, law, psychology, ethics, environmental issues, human interaction, human behavior is a joy. Seeing him interweave all of these traits is a joy. His sense of humor and sarcasm comes through. I didn’t see the reveal coming. Good read.
