Each peer-reviewed poster presentation delved into different aspects of their research that included outlining the effects of groups such as DRIVEN and addressed pertinent issues surrounding dating violence prevention. Elizabeth Terrazas-Carrillo led the research efforts. Extensive research showed that individuals between the ages of 18 to 25 are at a higher risk for experiencing dating violence, noted Terrazas-Carrillo. The endeavor was an opportunity for students to gain valuable counseling skills, including experience in conducting similar groups when they become licensed professional counselors, explained Terrazas-Carrillo. During the four-day convention, students were able to explore other areas within the field of psychology and network with nationally renowned psychologists.

During the Convention, the student and faculty researchers presented preliminary results of a quasi-experimental trial of the program. Their findings have been positive, indicating significant increases in mental health knowledge and commitment to a college education. The program offered eight group sessions specifically targeting Latino college students, offered psychoeducation on healthy relationships, gender roles, communication skills, and conflict management. The research findings indicated supportive attitudes toward dating violence continued to decrease after completing the program. Additionally, in six-month follow-up interviews, participants noted that they benefited from the interactive way information was presented and getting to share their perspectives in a safe, non-judgmental environment.

Results from this initial study suggest DRIVEN had differing positive impacts on men dating violence, attitudes, and the marianismo virtuosity subscale and women dating violence, perpetration, machismo, marianismo virtuosity subscale, and asserting displeasure.
