In 2019, KCA increased number and value of the award to four $75,000 grants. These merit-based grants, paid in one lump sum, are intended to fund physicians and scientists as they move from their fellowship programs to a faculty appointment. To qualify, applicants must have achieved a post-graduate degree or doctoral degree and currently be at an academic rank of assistant professor or lower (instructor, fellow) at an academic medical institution (a single entity medical school and university hospital) at the time of their application.
