Happy New Year Everyone!

Question: What’s the Fastest Way to Lose Clients in 2019?
Answer: Tell Them You Suffered a Corporate Data Breach and Exposed Their Confidential Client Information!

That’s what happened last month to Frontier Wealth Management according to the Vermont Attorney General’s Office , as Frontier Wealth Management sent a Notice of Data Breach to Consumers.

Compromised Employee Email to Blame
Hackers obtained a Frontier employee’s email credentials and gained unauthorized access to that email account in July/August 2018 and it took Frontier Wealth Management until November to confirm that personal client information was breached. They’re lucky, compromised credentials aren’t typically reported until an average of 15 months after a breach occurs.

What Could They Have Done to Prevent This Embarrassment?
If they had been using the UNAPEN Dark Web Monitoring & Alerts service , they would have been proactively notified the day their employee’s compromised email credentials went up for sale to hackers on the Dark Web. They could have immediately changed those credentials and/or suspended that employee’s email account and prevented this entire embarrassing, damaging and potentially costly breach of confidential client information and/or access to the Frontier Wealth Management corporate systems.
