World Parkinson Coalition: News

Upcoming Events

The World Parkinson Coalition (WPC) is organizing a number of online events in the upcoming months The next event in the WPC Research Spotlight series is on May 6 and registration is now open for the WPC Virtual Congress starting May 17. More details below.

WPC Research Spotlight: New Studies Support A Critical Role For Alpha Synuclein In PD
May 6, 2021 | Online

Join this event to hear Erwan Bezard, PhD, and his colleagues Benjamin Dehay, PhD, and Marie-Laure Arotcarena, PhD, discussing their research on α-synuclein, showing that pathological forms of the α-synuclein protein present in the brain of deceased PD patients were capable of initiating a Parkinsonian-like pathological process in mice and primates (view their recent blog post on this topic). Their more recent research suggests that the transmission of α-synuclein pathology does not go through the vagus nerve as it was previously suggested.

April is Parkinson's Awareness Month

JPD was Media Partner of 2021 Insights into PD

This year, the 2021 INSIGHT Conference took place as a free online event on World Parkinson's Day, April 11, and JPD was the media partner. The event included world-class speakers presenting across a range of topics, including the latest PD research, medical technology, and navigating medical misinformation, and there are still events happening that you can join in with – as anyone who registered can have access to the platform until May 11. In that case, we share with you news of a Q&A on April 22 with neurosurgeon Charlie Teo at 11:00 (AEST). Don't worry if you miss the live discussion as a recording will be made available on the conference site.
