A special issue of JND is planned entitled "Terence Partridge: A Distinguished Career Dedicated to Muscle Research"
An upcoming JND special issue will celebrate the distinguished career of Prof. Terence Partridge in the field of myogenesis and skeletal muscle diseases. It will aim to highlight the significant contributions Prof. Terry Partridge has made to the field of muscle biology both through his own discoveries over half a century and the exceptional trainees that he has produced over this period. Submissions will be a tribute to his contributions and will help lead the way towards future growth in this field. If you have been affiliated with Prof. Partridge and would like to participate in this special issue, then we invite you to contribute a primary research article to this special edition. Anyone interested in submitting should first get in touch to outline the submission topic so the editors can assess whether the paper will fit the scope of the journal.

Submission deadline: 31 March 2021
Contact: Jyoti Jaiswal or Kanneboyina Nagaraju (details available via the link below)

TREAT-NMD News

Statement on COVID-19 Vaccinations

On February 26, 2021, TREAT-NMD released a statement relating to COVID-19 vaccinations along with links to information about vaccine safety and effectiveness. James Dowling, Chair, released the statement on behalf of the TREAT NMD Executive Committee, and an extract is included here:

"Our neuromuscular community has felt this impact in many ways, including concern for worsening of disease course and respiratory status with infection. Vaccines against COVID-19 are now being adopted and distributed in many countries. With vaccination comes great hope for protection against the virus and a gradual return to “normalcy”. We therefore encourage and recommend all individuals who are able to access the vaccine to do so, as data shows it is safe and effective."

ENMC News

New Mid-Career Mentoring Programme Launched

The European Neuromuscular Centre (ENMC) was founded in 1992 by a group of European patient associations to bring leading researchers and clinicians from all over the world. It has for many years run an Early-Career Programme and, building on that success, we are now pleased to announce the launch of a new initiative: the Mid-Career Mentoring Programme.

This new programme is conceived to support and prepare talented and committed neuromuscular specialists for transdisciplinary, cooperative leadership, thereby promoting innovation and progress of future neuromuscular research. These individuals will be at the stage in their careers where they are developing their own research plans and are establishing their own teams and collaborative networks. Scope of the mentoring programme is to empower these mid-career professionals and prepare them for independent leadership, most importantly increasing their chances of reaching high positions where they have the possibility to open up tenure-track perspectives for the next generations. With the two programmes in place, ENMC provides learning support to the entire spectrum of rising stars in the neuromuscular field, from PhD students to research group/clinical unit heads.

For more details, visit the ENMC website.
