Performance, Science and Science Education

Improvscience is a pioneering firm, bringing performance and improvisation to improve communication, collaboration and diversity in STEM fields.

It's been 5 years since improvscience began. We've worked with 2500 scientists at over 70 workshops & events! We continue to grow in many ways with our team of improvscientists and performance directors.

We have had an exciting 2015 and wish to share with you some themes and highlights of our year. We look forward to growing with you in 2016. Have a wonderful holiday season!

Warm regards,
Raquell M. Holmes, Ph.D.
Founder, Director

Living Improv Experiment

Scientists are people who experience highs and lows in life, including when they're engaged in their work. We performed the public Living Improv Experiment (LIvE) for the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology meeting in Boston to have fun while showing the human element in science.

Building inclusive communities

Improvscience is building inclusive communities of diverse scientists in multiple locations. Dr. Raquell Holmes and our team have led workshops on mentoring and inclusion of women and minorities  throughout 2015 including with STEM professionals at Arizona State University and the TRUST Center at Berkeley.

Supercomputing

And for a fifth year in a row, improvscience has had a role at the Supercomputing conference's discussions of diversity in high-performance computing fields. The online magazine HPCWire covered our ongoing role at Supercomputing conferences.

Professional Presentations Workshops

Our Professional Presentations workshops began at Harvard in 2011. Since then these have helped scientists grow their voices in numerous locations, including at BU, UCHC, and the American Chemical Society. Improvscience returned to the ACS for a second consecutive year to lead a presentations workshop with the ChemChamps competition's semi-finalists.  We're proud of growing a program that now meets a national audience.

CESTEMER conference

In June of this year, improvscience helped organize and produce the Cultivating Ensembles in STEM Education and Research conference.  Forty STEM professionals, educators and artists came together to celebrate the power of groups in the interest of science.

With this success and growth, we're looking forward to inviting you to many new activities in 2016. Keep an eye on us via Twitter, Facebook, or LinkedIn. Next stop: 2016 and continued development for all!
