    Great for Landscapes
Overall, I’m very pleased with these pencils. For all the time I’ve had them, I can’t really comment on how they do by themselves as I’ve always used them with water. They do take some practice to use to their full potential (and, as such, may be difficult for the beginner) but really work well when water is applied. They are ideal for doing landscapes in the US Southwest and similar environments. The attached sketchbook work shows a late summer scene on a trip up Alaska’s Dalton Highway before the taiga starts gradually transitioning to tundra. I did use two shades of green (on the shoulders of the road) from Derwent’s now-discontinued Aquatone sticks to achieve some shades of green I just couldn’t figure out how to obtain with the Graphitint pencils, though that ’s a lack of knowledge on my part when it comes to mixing colors. I’ve found that one needs to work carefully to avoid the grainy texture unless that’s the effect one wants/needs in the finished product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not what I was expecting, I really like them!
Reviewed in the United States on July 23, 2021
I wasn't sure about these. The reviews were so all over the place that I really wasn't sure what I was getting. I have the 24 tin of Derwent watercolor pencils which I haven't used much but when I have I've really liked them. Strangely (and maybe I wasn't using enough water) it seemed like the watercolor pencils didn't activate with water as well as these graphite ones. I used them for both of my horse pictures and used water with one but left the other dry. Very subtle I can see the different colors of black and Grey's I used on the horses eye picture. I used watercolor to frame it and got a little too crazy so that really takes away from it.
The one major thing I was really surprised by was how soft these are. They're really hard to get a good sharp point on and go on so soft that it's impossible to get a thin line. I even wrote next to my messy swatch how soft I thought they were. Softer than say...crayons. Way softer. So keep that in mind.
I was also surprised how much they activated and broke down with water and brush. The brown horse activated so much in it's mane that I even went back over it to add strands of hair. But since I used Morse bold lines and more lines under the face and chin and under the neck, those could have probably activated more if I had wanted them to but I left them for a bit of shading.
I did use a reference from Pintrest by Tetiana Verstak. The other I didn't use a reference.
Lastly, one cool thing about these which I found strange since they're so soft, the erase with a standard d to a degree that you can easily cover or fix a mistake. When you add water you only need a smalI amount and you can push the color around if it's wet enough to the point that you can erase the color completelyby pushing it out of the way. I love the more earthy colors and the kind of dirty quality to the greens, blues and the Abergine (which has a purple tint to it). Obviously I added water to the swatch I made. You can see how I pushed the Abergine to the edges with the water.
These are nothing like regular graphite. That was disappointing to me until I worked with them. I really enjoy them and look forward to doing more with them along with the watercolor pencils. I may order a larger tin. But being a new artist, supplies have been sucking me dry.
I hope this helps! Happy arting my friends!

4.0 out of 5 stars A unique medium with unique results
Reviewed in the United States on October 4, 2018
Semi-transparent, mostly easy lifting, water blendable. These act more like watercolor pencils that feel like graphite than colored graphite pencils that can be used with water. They do not DRY blend at all. Not a single budge with a blending stick no matter how many layers you put down. I think they must use hard pigmented wax (or gum arabic, maybe?) and little graphite or all the colors would end up grey and muddy. They do, however, water blend rather smoothly, and the pigments come alive with a touch of water. They are, in essence, a completely different medium than both graphite pencils and watercolor pencils, so they have a learning curve. A few of the colors, like cocoa, feel more waxy than others. The colors are very muted and organic feeling, which I love but may disappoint some. There is also a limited color palette, with a yellow sorely missing. I'm also not a fan of the soft wood they used for the barrels. Sharpening them can be an experience all its own and requires a gentle hand. Downfalls aside, I love the way they react with water, the organic feel and the color range that works well for landscapes, botanicals, architectural. If only there were a yellow...
