August 1-5, 2016
9am-3pm
Grades 5-8 in Fall
$30 (This cost is offset by a grant)

This week-long workshop will task students to be civil engineers - engaging in the design and building of bridges and buildings  that can withstand earthquakes. Students will utilize the engineering design process in order to design, build, and test structures.  The workshop will use a variety of materials from spaghetti to cardboard to sensors.  (The workshop includes a small component of LEGO robotics and programming). Additionally, students will be exposed to physics concepts, and data analysis through various design challenges. The week will culminate in a large design project where students will have the opportunity to put the all the concepts from the week to use. There is a final show at 2pm on the final day (Friday) of the workshop.
