‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ grosses $330 million in its opening weekend

In the United States it was the best debut of a film released in November, with 180 million dollars.

Marvel Black Panther Wakanda Forever

A bittersweet taste before the premiere of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. On the one hand, the memory and longing for the absence of the prematurely deceased, in 2020, Chadwick Boseman playing T’Challa, on the other the spectacular box office figures for the premiere of this sequel that Ryan Coogler has directed again.

With it, Marvel Studios manages to get the second best debut of a feature film this year in North American theaters, giving reason to the forecasts and entering, although they are not yet definitive figures, 180 million dollars (about 174 million in euros), and staying one step away from surpassing the 187.4 that Doctor Strange amassed at the beginning of May in the multiverse of madness.

A collection that also makes it the best debut of a film in the US and Canadian market in a month of November, destroying the record that in 2013 reached The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and its 158 million in the first weekend. It is also positioned as the thirteenth best debut of a premiere in all of history, although it falls short of the 202 million that the first Black Panther obtained four years ago.

Outside of North America it has also started with a brilliant box office, with 150 million more that raise its global income to 330 million dollars.

Data that also far exceeds those achieved by the most recent DC blockbuster, Black Adam. And it is that in practically three days, Wakanda Forever has already raised the same as the film starring Dwayne Johnson in almost four weeks, 352.2 million dollars. And even in the United States, with 151.1 million, it has already exceeded it.

Even so, another bad news is that the two films will run out of the presumably great collection that the gigantic Asian market offers. Black Adam would have been canceled by the Chinese government due to statements by one of its protagonists, Pierce Brosnan who plays Doctor Fate, supporting the Dalai Lama, while Black Panther: Wakanda Forever would suffer the same fate for containing LGBTIQ+ characters. In 2018, Black Panther with Boseman earned a box office of $105 million there.
