EPA Announces Public Workshop for Proposal to End Use of 134a in New Motor Vehicles and Consumer Products
     The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) published in the Federal Register on Aug. 6 a proposed rule that, if finalized, would prohibit the use of 134a as a refrigerant in new motor vehicles beginning in model year 2021. Further, beginning in 2016, EPA is proposing to no longer permit the use of 134a as an aerosol in consumer products some of which are automotive products.  Read more...

EPA Grants CARB Waiver from Certain Clean Air Act Provisions
     On Aug. 7, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) officially granted the waiver request from the California Air Resources Board (CARB) to exempt certain heavy duty vehicles from the Clean Air Act provisions so that CARB can enforce their Heavy-Duty Tractor-Trailer Green House Gas Regulations.  Read more...

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Proposes New Regulations for Bus Structural Integrity
     On Aug. 6, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced a new proposal for enhancing and testing the structural integrity of heavy duty motor coaches in rollover crashes. The standards would apply to newly built buses of at least 26,000 lbs. gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) along with some retrofit requirements for windows on existing over-the-road buses.  Read more...

EPA Holds Experts Listening Session on TCE in Solvents and Degreasers
     On July 29-30, the Environmental Protection Agency held a workshop for chemical and general industry experts on the use of trichloroethylene (TCE) in degreasers and solvents. TCE is still used for cleaning in certain automotive parts manufacturing environments, but is also found in certain automotive consumer products, as well.  Read more...

Auto Care Association and AAPAC to Host Event with Mass. Governor Deval Patrick
     During the Auto Care Association’s Fall Leadership Days in Boston next month, the association, along with the Automotive Aftermarket Political Action Committee (AAPAC), will host a dinner honoring Deval Patrick, second term Governor of Massachusetts and friend of the auto care industry. Ford Seeks To Freeze Tariff Phase-Out Under TPP If Japan Imposes New Barriers
     The Ford Motor Company has urged the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative to include provisions in a bilateral auto trade deal with Japan under the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) that would allow the U.S. to stop the clock on phasing out its auto tariffs if Japan moves to impose new non-tariff measures that restrict U.S. auto exports.  Read more...

NAM Research Highlights Growth of Foreign Export Credit Activity
     New research published by the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM), which the Auto Care Association is a member of, documents the massive size and growth of foreign export credit activity. Most developed countries and many developing countries have official export credit agencies (ECAs), with more than 60 operating worldwide.  Read more...
