Considerations When Making Programming Changes

As you plan for the next catechetical sessions, there are a few things to consider before rolling out a family focused plan. In a “Forming Family Faith” workshop held here a couple of years ago, Joan Weber discussed five things that will target your catechetical efforts so that they support family faith:

  • Build relationships- meet families and help connect them to each other
  • Help families see holiness in everyday life
  • Be sure you are supporting parents' faith
  • Support faith efforts at home
  • Provide ministries with families in mind. Consider their challenges and their schedules

For more information, see the Fashioning Faith webpage.

Remember to educate and discuss any changes with key volunteers and participants before starting something new allowing people to “grow into” it.

New Resources to Support Family Faith

Paraclete Press recently released two great resources from Donna-Marie Cooper O’Boyle for families:

  • Reclaiming Sundays - This easy-to-use book includes prayers, reflections, mini teachings and activities that help to focus Sunday on faith. Although designed for home use, this is also a great resource faith formation sessions.
  • Feeding Your Family’s Soul - This book contains 53 dinner table sessions that include prayer, brief teachings and reflections. There is also a DVD with seven sessions including one on forgiveness that could be used as a great parent meeting for First Reconciliation.
