Cencoroll 3 Sequel Anime Green-Lit as Story's Finale

Creator hopes it will not take another decade; supercell's songs for Cencoroll Connect revealed

Director Atsuya Uki announced on the opening day of the Cencoroll Connect film screenings in Tokyo on Saturday that production on the Cencoroll 3 sequel has been green-lit. Uki presented a teaser still from the upcoming sequel:

Uki added that Cencoroll 3 will be the finale to the main characters Tetsu and Yuki's story. Cencoroll 3's release date is still to be determined — but Uki said, given the decade-long wait between the first Cencoroll and Cencoroll 2, that he will not say it will be 10 years from now and that he wants to do it as quickly as possible.

The staff also revealed that supercell contributed the songs "#Love" and "Nanairo Night" as the theme song and insert song, respectively, for Cencoroll Connect, the special joint screening of Uki's first Cencoroll film short and the Cencoroll 2 sequel. Since supercell only completed these songs one week before the first screenings, even the anime's cast heard the songs for the first time during their stage event appearance on opening day. The new commercial for Cencoroll Connect features the theme song: (Note: the below video is only viewable in Japan.)

Aniplex of America will screen Cencoroll Connect at Anime Expo on July 4. The joint screening is playing in six theaters in Japan. The artist ryo of supercell returned to compose the music. The film stars:

The first Cencoroll theatrical anime short's story begins when a giant monster sends a town's citizens into a panic — except for a girl named Yuki and her schoolmate Tetsu. Tetsu happens to have his own strange creature named Cenco as a pet. Another boy named Shū controls the monster threatening the town, and the stage is set for a battle.

Uki (Digimon Adventure tri., tsuritama) directed, wrote, designed, and animated the first Cencoroll project himself, and the film had its world premiere at Canada's Fantasia 2009 festival. The short also played in Tokyo, Osaka, and New York at the New York Anime Film Festival.

The Cencoroll 2 sequel was originally slated to open in summer 2014.
