Ryker (Steele Brothers #1) Kindle Edition
Mackenzie Steele assumed she’d be with her husband forever. He's still her best friend and the father of her children. But when weeks turn into months without intimacy, she realizes she's too young to feel so old. She wants to feel desirable again, to find the woman Ryker fell in love with twenty years ago. And there’s only one way to do that… by asking him to move out.
Ryker's blindsided when his wife tells him she wants to separate. He knew they’d hit a rough patch, but he’d never allowed himself to imagine his life without her. Now he has no choice. She seems happy without him, living life on her own terms, and he knows if he doesn’t find a place for himself in her new life, it will be too late to save his marriage.

As much as I dislike not having a perfectly clear HEA wrapped up in a big ribbon, I feel the HFN works well for this book (Hello? First in a series of hot brothers? More of the characters in the rest of the books?).
Me being me here, I'm going to mention something I read in another review (it's not verbatim and I'm not going to go looking for it so I can quote word for word cos' I'm lazy). It's pointed out that our h forgives our H pretty much instantly for something he keeps from her towards the very end of the book. It has very big consequences, and the other reviewer said it didn't seem believable and that one protagonist involved wasn't dealt with correctly. While it is something that wasn't 110% corrected... I believe it, and I get the H's reasoning and I get the h reasoning. It's life, love and 20 odd years of being in a relationship with someone and trusting their words. YES, she left him for half a year. YES, it was both their faults. NO, no-one cheated, it honestly was lack of communication that caused it AND the little drama near the end. I do think that that drama made our H realise his own idiocy. We shall see in the rest of the series :D

This was recommended by a friend and I loved it! Marriage in trouble books are hard to come by, especially ones written as well as this one

Took a while to get into. Was going to stop reading at 10% through but thought I'd give it a bit more of a chance. I enjoyed the story but found it hard going. Not sure if I'll read more from this author.

Really good book. For me it was a page turner. This book had a little bit of everything. There is romance, suspence and thrills all wrapped up in this one book. Great writing from start to finish. I would definitely read more books by Cheryl Douglas.

RYKER was the type of book I was looking for - married couple separating after growing apart. I guess after reading it I didn’t like it because of Mac and Molly mostly. Their sons took it better that she asked Ryker to move out than I did.
It was well written, introduced a lot of secondary characters without being cumbersome, and makes the reader think about how the impact of a separation effects the relationship and people individually.

This is a standalone book with a HEA, a couple of typos, swear words & sex scenes. It was a book that was featured in “New Beginnings”, a collection of first books by Cheryl Douglas. This book is told in dual POV in first person.
Mackenzie & Ryker have been together for 20yrs. They married young & after 2 boys, they have grown apart, neither wanting to face or confront the issue. Ryker cannot believe it when his best friend tells him she wants a trial separation & asks him to move out. He gives her the space she wants, to find herself, but is dismayed to learn she’s dating again. He still loves her & wants her too much to just give up on “them”...
Mackenzie is enjoying her life as a single woman, rediscovering herself. She is still attracted to her husband, but have they grown too far apart to get back together, or is Ryker only wanting to stay for the sake of their teenage sons?
I liked the characters in this book. Hopefully Zane will have learnt his lesson in this Book. There were no evil person, & Ryker’s siblings all seem nice & interesting. 4*

Even romance novel relationships need work.

For once a book that focuses on a mature couple and the real life problems and situations that happen after the normal happy ever after ending we all used to. Real problems, real emotions, real situations and very real and relatable characters. Their characters growth and ability to mature in the story was refreshing and so well written. What I appreciated is that it explored the story line from both her and his perspective. It also helped that both characters accepted
responsibility for their actions and it wasn't just the woman giving in and giving up. She was a strong main character. This is a good book depicting what can go wrong and how love and trust can make it go right..
