Man held over Prince Andrew's Berkshire home break-in

A man has been arrested after three intruders broke into the grounds of the home of the Duke and Duchess of York.

Police said the group drove into the grounds of Royal Lodge in Windsor Great Park on Monday but fled empty-handed.

Prince Andrew and his daughters, Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice, were in Scotland at the time while the duchess was also away.

A 43-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit theft and is in custody.

He was arrested at his home address in Colnbrook, Slough, earlier.

Police denied reports the intruders were seen wearing balaclavas or that they smashed through the front gates, which were not found to be demolished.

The method of entry remains under investigation, a spokeswoman said.

Buckingham Palace declined to comment on security measures at the residence.

Prince Andrew inherited Royal Lodge after the Queen Mother's death.

His former wife, Sarah Ferguson, has remained good friends with the prince despite their divorce.
