Practical Theological Education

Ministry For All

The AdventHealth Shawnee Mission Clinical Pastoral Education program (ACPE) provides interfaith professional training for clergy, aspiring clergy and qualified laity. This exciting method of adult learning combines the action of ministry with reflection upon that ministry using graduate-level seminars, individual supervision and group processes. The program focuses on developing pastoral formation/identity, pastoral competence and pastoral reflection in a supportive, structured, challenging and compassionate environment. It offers the opportunity to integrate knowledge from medicine, psychology and spirituality into pastoral theology and practice.

AdventHealth Shawnee Mission CPE program is accredited by The Association for Clinical Pastoral Education, Inc., (ACPE) to offer CPE at Level 1 and Level 2 Learning Outcomes.

CPE Patient

Specialized Ministry

Clinical/Ministry assignments are negotiated between the CPE supervisor and student in collaboration with the department director. Some areas we identify for ministry focus include trauma, geriatrics, psychiatric, oncology and palliative care. These may also include special types of ministry offered to patients who are facing special or difficult circumstances in their lives.

Please contact a CPE at 913-676-2304 for additional information.
